Title: RIP Blaster
Post by: TShelly on December 10, 2012, 12:49:54 pm
Big E's dog Blaster passed away last night. He was the basis for his line of dogs now & was a true "hog dog". So rough at 9 years old he had every canine busted out of his mouth. He kept Dr. long, the vet in Huntsville, in business with his numerous trips to  be sewn up and pieced back together. His medical history was so many pages long it was more like a short story of "hog dog injuries"! He was never the fastest dog, but he traveled with a purpose and gait that is strongly passed on and noticeable in his pups. The HUNT that this dog possessed is what made him a hog dog. He was a hog finding machine, starting at 8 months until he passed yesterday. It's not a far stretch to say he has struck over a 1000 hogs and seen 2 to 3 times that many at a bays in his life time. He would roll off and go find more, til his old legs or lungs gave out. Probably the best quality in Blaster was he was PRODUCER. I've seen litters of his make 100% hog dogs. Not saying he never produced a cull but they were few and far between. His pups hit the ground striking hogs.

He was a true pleasure to hunt behind him and now he  is the focal point of the rest of the dogs Erik has. It's hard to pick out stories of him when there are so many to choose from, he was a legend around our group of hog hunters. I heard someone talking about him last year when at 8 years old he was rolling still with the best. That guy looked at Blaster and said "that old dog is the equivalent of an 80 year old man in the boxing ring, still knocking people out like Mike Tyson in his prime!" He was an old war horse that will truly be missed.

In the beginning it was believed he had stroke while hunting on Friday, but after further analysis he was done in by a rattle-snake bite to the base of the tail/hip area.

RIP blaster

Hated to get that text this morning Tony.  I know he'll be missed by y'all.  It's hard losing a real hog dog that has been around as long as he has.

RIP Blaster

Sure was sorry to get the text this morning saying he didn't make it. Blaster was one of the hardest hunting cur dog I have ever had the privileged to hunt behind. He was a dog that when you turned him loose he would hit the ground running and if there was a hog around you better get the tie rope ready. Sure sorry for your loss Eric he was great one! And like Tony said he was as good of a producer as he was a hog dog!

His sons top Goose, front Briar and grandson below Peanut!

Blaster had brains and more drive and hunt than most people will ever see! He was also a son of the legendary CB dog! Blaster was a dog that was in the hogs face! He bayed so tight he probably busted a lot of bays but he had the grit to stop the hog, and it usually was caught before you got there! If it wasn't, when he saw you there, things were fixing to get real! Since he was 2, every year I said this would probably be his last! I have spent more time and money patching the leaks on this dog than any other I've ever had! And as I don't post much on here, TShelly does a good job keeping y'all up to date on what we catch! I gave Tony Briar, and he is turning out to be just as good a hunter as Blaster, just not as rough, thank God!

Thats some sad news when a great one goes to that Hog Heaven in the sky its tuff on all who loved him on earth.  But his hog dog family are rejoicing in the sky because one of their comrades and family is home to lead them in that big hog battle in the sky.

Great memories and his gene pool that he left you will live on for ever threw your dogs thats the great news .  You will see him threw them everyday till the day you join him in that Big Hog Heaven in the Sky.

He's waitin on you now buddy.

Thats how I looked at it when I lost my great dog Black Jack.  Damn I loved that dog as you did him.

RIP Blaster.
