Title: Hunting Styles Post by: KevinN on December 12, 2012, 10:12:48 am I Was reading on the RCD thread a few minutes ago. I did not read every response, just kind of skimmed thru. It is interesting to me....how people get fired up when their "style" of hunting is questioned/challenged.
I did see a post by someone saying that if your finding/catching hogs, no matter how you do it your doing good. It was something to that effect anyway. I agree, and Ill take it a step further. If you ENJOY yourself while your out with your dogs, then your doing good. I don't have to catch multiple hogs every time my dogs hit the ground to have a good time. Heck, I don't have to catch "A" hog every time my dogs hit the ground, but, it's alot more fun when I do ^-^ To me it's more about.....just what you enjoy. When I first started hunting it was with guys that ran strike/bay dogs and used lead ins. Sure, the bay dogs caught hogs that were small but for the most part we saw every hog, watched every bay for at least a few seconds before we let the bulldog go from inside 40 yards. That's how I was "raised" and that's what I love. Getting the dogs on the ground, seeing them work, then they disappear and when your about to mention it to your partner they open up. First one, then two, then the whole pack is there so you start working towards them. You sneak in, spy the dogs, then the hog and you watch. You watch those wonderful dogs work. Those wonderful dogs, not wonderful because they are the best dogs in the world but because they are your dogs and your partners, because you picked them out, you raised them and helped them develop into what they are. They are working that hog, as a team, holding him in one spot. They are thoroughly enjoying themselves, and you are too. You grab the bulldog by the collar, unsnap him and make sure he has the hog in his sight, then you let him go. Ladies and Gentlemen, THAT is what I love. No, I'm not content with the dogs I have. I will always strive to improve my line but in the mean time, if my dogs can put me on a few hogs and give me that experience. Ahhhhh....that's just bliss. Me myself i just enjoy being in the woods and catching hogs is icing on the cake. Dont get me wrong i hate dry runs but i dont have very many an when i do it just makes me hunt harder the next trip

Heck, one I got MAY end up like that. Lol Title: Re: Hunting Styles Post by: RyanTBH on December 13, 2012, 04:42:17 pm I agree! We don't take guns normally unless we are going to a new spot, and even then we just don't need/use them. We use CDs and we've been on some bad ones, had some dogs get cut down, but have always been able to keep our cool and get the hog caught. I won't say that maybe one day we won't need it and not have it, but I bet you there is a caught hog at the end of it either way! LOL! ;D I like to hunt different ways, but walk hunting puttin down miles, and putting a hog or hogs at the end of it is hard to beat for me. I've had people tell me I'm wrong for not taking a gun, but like I said to each his/her own. The main reason I'm out there is to work the dogs, first and foremost!!! Catching hogs is the positive side to it! Just a big plus. To each his/her own I say! Like you said, so long as you're having a good time and the dogs are hunting that's all that matters.
