i like it !!!   how many piers do you have underneath it ?  and since alot will look at this thread wondering thoughts on useing 1'' treated plyboard for the flooring anybody done that or is the lumber more cost effective . i need to build a few above ground kennels in the near future .

Looks good. Can't wait to start mine. The money is saved but it has been raining every couple days here near Baton Rouge. To wet to get a concrete truck in the back.

Thanks mr. Whitten    It has 1 pier for each kennel.  Its plenty sturdy..   Sure will be nice when i finish

I'm sure the plywood would work but I like the small gaps in between the lumber on mine makes it easier to wash. But I don't see the difference between solid plywood and concrete besides the plywood may soak up pee and stuff

so whats the latest and greatest for this nice kennel set?  any finished pics or still working on it?

Post by: ED BARNES on January 24, 2013, 11:45:19 am
YOU CAN TREAT IT WITH USED MOTOR OIL AND DIESEL PRETTY CHEAP. THOMPSONS IS GOOD STUFF AND BY THE PRICE TAG THEY KNOW IT!

Title: Re: Kennel project
Post by: charles on January 24, 2013, 06:11:32 pm
both mr whitten and ed barnes have good treatment ideas. i would prefer thompsons for ease of cleaniness, unlike the used motor oil unless there is a trick to keep the oil from getting all over the dogs or having to wait a good while for the oil to soak in b4 putting dogs in them. diesel has a 2 fold use, it will keep bug and other critters away, at the same time of water repelment.

You prob already know but a powerwasher would be a great asset for cleaning those out I have a friend who has a similar set up and with that power washer you can blow them things out in about 10 seconds and not have a mud hole.

Muddog i just kinda built these as i went along no planes really.. They are 10X10  6 foot tall in front sloped to 5.5 in the back.   Theres 8 kennels. The whole thing is 80 ft long.   I agree lumber is hi  and its ever harder to find strait lumber anymore.   I had trouble with snakes and parvo in my yard before so hopefuly this keeps all the dogs safe.
