I won't bore you with the techical details of why the signal strength and complexity of the data stream make a system like the ASTRO difficult to use over long distances, but it is. Of course, if you've used radio telemetry collars, you are painfully aware of their limitations as well. Innotek may have developed the answer. It's called the GPS20. The good news: It uses GPS at shorter range, and good old fashioned radio telemetry at longer ranges. The bad news: It's expensive, but no more than a good Marshal radio system. The really bad news: As far as I can tell, they only sell it in Australia. But I'm hoping I've just missed it somewhere... anyone seen one in the U.S.? :-\ Here's the link: http://www.innotek.com.au/products/gps-tracking/gps-20 (http://www.innotek.com.au/products/gps-tracking/gps-20) Title: Re: Garmin astro 220 with DC 30 coller Post by: jhy on June 16, 2009, 01:01:28 pm The first one I bought wouldnt pick up past 200 yards even with the extended range antenna. I would make sure that you have it on the right battery setting, but more than likely your internal antenna is not connected and this seems to be a problem with a few folks. I returned mine for another and it is working like a charm.

It will also still be able to do the Beep Beep. I'm excited about it's release at the first of the year. At least that is what they're shooting for anyway.

I HAVE 1 AND IT WORKS GOOD BUT HOWEVER I WOULD NEVER TURN 1 OF MY DOGS LOOSE WITH ONLY THE GARMIN ON THEM BECAUSE SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE LOST DOGS THIS WAY. I ALWAYS USE MY MARSHALL COLLARS AND SYSTEM AS WELL AS THE GARMIN JUST 2 BE SAFE
