Title: Sounders Post by: KevinN on January 08, 2013, 07:39:28 pm Just wondering......
How do YOU handle a sounder that's bayed up? I've seen it done a couple different ways.... 1. Just cut the CD's loose. Sometimes this works...sometimes not. Lots of bad things can happen in this scenario. I've seen two catch dogs go into a sounder, one catch and the other miss...hogs broke everywhere of course and we ended up catching another hog about 20 minutes later. So nothing bad on that hunt but.... I've seen two CD's sent in on a 15 hog (mostly BIG hogs) sounder, both CD's caught initially but were t-boned and cut down by the rest of the group before they finally broke and ran. 2. I've seen a guy charge the sounder with a sturdy branch yelling and screaming to break it up...lol, it was a sight.... The dogs did end up stopping two of the hogs and we got them both caught (within an hour or so) How do y'all handle sounders? Title: Re: Sounders Post by: txsteve85 on January 08, 2013, 08:39:52 pm We walked in 20yards pigs stared at us and didn't move so we talked bout for min lol then decided to let both catchdog go at same time...as soon as we cut em one broke and got caught ...other dogs rolled off and bayed up another one caught it and that's how that one went...catchdog were kinda confused on what was going on it was funny.
Title: Re: Sounders Post by: T-Bob Parker on January 08, 2013, 08:54:49 pm Leave it alone and let the dogs bay it as long as possible. Next time it happens in daylight, I'm gonna just sit back and film it. It Oughta give the dogs plenty of time to count all the hogs in it. ;) :D
It'll break eventually, why not enjoy it for a bit? When it happens again in the day time I'm gonna try my hardest to move it, probably won't work but what the hey, it won't hurt to try. Title: Re: Sounders Post by: chestonmcdowell on January 08, 2013, 08:56:45 pm is a sounder just a large group of hogs

Let em bay it and call the dogs off if you can after they bay for awhile, unless there's a real big Barr in there or a dang good boar. It ain't bout catching hogs as it is watching dogs work for me, and sounders are all to rare anymore. Title: Re: Sounders Post by: monster on January 08, 2013, 09:38:30 pm Just let the dogs bay and film if you can. I usually like to get close to the bay just to make sure its not a group of big hoggs. I dont want my catchdogs getting tore up or killed. Ive been on a couple of group hoggs and as soon as you release the cd's they spread and even run pass you to get away.

Title: Re: Sounders Post by: brad s on January 09, 2013, 12:25:07 am Its fun when u bay a big group at night u can literally walk up and catch one without a dog catching it. I cant tell how many times my catch dog caught one in middle of a group and me n my buddies would sneak up and grab a couple. Then catch the one that the dogs catch.

When they break pick em off one by one. Hopefully.
Title: Re: Sounders Post by: RyanTBH on January 10, 2013, 03:42:46 pm I heard a idea about this last weekend hunting with some friends. They said a good way to catch em all if they are settled in pretty good is to get you about 2 or 3 leads and snap em together. latch the CD up and send him in on em one by one and pull em out, tie em up, and send the CD back in for another one until they break. I bet you could probably do it a couple times before they realized whats going on. I'd like to try this if we ever get a sounder bayed up again. The first hog I've ever seen was in a sounder when we walked up on em, and wasn't a small bunch of hogs either. Cool stuff!

Title: Re: Sounders Post by: txhogsanddogs on January 11, 2013, 10:29:53 am i bay sounders often, in all the excitment its easy to turn a cd to them and yes most of the time you get a hog out of the group but what ive learned over the years if you will sit bck and let the dogs bay most of the time it will bring the fight out in the biggest hog and usually they will get him single out and really not push the rest of them too far away, but at least you got the biggest one out of there. Good luck to you man!
Title: Re: Sounders Post by: Beaucephus on January 11, 2013, 12:35:59 pm TXhogsanddogs is corrrect. I've bayed up a few and eventually the biggest, badest, meanest one will come out to fight. Then its over.
Title: Re: Sounders Post by: JGUIDRY on January 11, 2013, 02:10:35 pm We bayed up a group of hogs one time in the dark, we had 5 bay dogs all baying, win we walked up to them with the bull dog they broke and each bay dog cought his one hog, then the rodeo started 5 cought hogs at one time with in 50 yards. All from 25 to 125lbs nothing big but it was fun.

Title: Re: Sounders Post by: KevinN on January 11, 2013, 07:25:17 pm Your one catch with no problems? That one group I was talking about was RANK! They cut the heck out of both CD's, knocked them off and busted out.
Title: Re: Sounders Post by: BA-IV on January 11, 2013, 09:37:09 pm We bayed 9 head up in a clay root where two oaks fell on top of one another. It was all spotted hogs, mostly sows, and I had some young rough dogs on the ground. They had a cave where you could barely see em, but one barren sow kept busting out and whipping dogs. Well we ended up walking across one of the oaks with some lead ropes tied together to rope em out, and they stayed bayed during it all, til my brother in law fell off and almost in the middle of em. They broke and dogs caught a three legged Barr hog, cuz of course my crap eaters zero in on the slowest thing there is
