Title: BMC Pup with Black spot on tail
Post by: Beaucephus on January 11, 2013, 12:42:44 pm
I have a 3 month old pup with a black spot on her tail about half way down it.  It is a little rough.  It was very faint when she was younger but is getting for noticeable.   I'll post a picture.

Is this normal or is some wrong?

Thanks

Looks like the beginning of some Catahoula spots. There was probably a spotted dog in the woodpile way back in the pedigree. She will
probably be a full blown spotted blue leopard with glass eyes within 6 months.  ;D  ;D  just kiddin.

I forgot to add this.  It wouldn't worry me too much but it has a rough texture to it.  Not dry or scabby.  Just swollen kinda.

Look to see if the hair is actually a different color...or the hair is discolored.

Difference is one you cannot help due to lineage and possibly old traits surfacing.

Discoloration is usually created by some underlying issue.  Sickness, skin irritation,  allergies ect.  Typically it will be dried blood or skin seepage that long term stains the hair a brown or dark black color.

I treated a place last year on a younger dog with baby oil once a day.  The irritation location was caused by dry skin from the dog rubbing up against a creosote fence post.

If Catahoula is detected ....Immediately contact a Priest or Rabbi to perform a exercisom of the dogs soul.   >:D
