Title: Breeding my own version of the Bullarab.
Post by: Boondock Saints Kennels on January 22, 2013, 09:39:35 pm
I am thinking about breeding my Stag/Game bred Pit male to a Bird/Bull of my own breeding, not done yet. I think that the Aussie's had the right Idea, but they should have used game bred pit's and Stag's instead of Bull terriers and Greyhounds. I am also considering adding some Plott blood into the mix, maybe the Stag/Pit to a Plott, then to the Bird/Bull, What do you all think?.

Great idea why the plott? The bird has the nose already!   Any dog that can smell a bird can dang sure smell a hog! The bird will keep the speed!

Good point, but they would be only 1/4 Elhew Pointer. I think Plott's have good traits that would be an asset and would give the final result a better nose, and they would still be silent!.

I think 1/4 pointer would be fine. The other breeds in the mix have a decent nose.

I say go for it! Everything including dogs CAN be improved. History proves this. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I think you all are right, plus I would probably lose the build that I want them to have with the hound in the mix!.

I believe anything u cross with a bird dog will turn out good the bird dog has the strongest nose than any other dog but they are not bred for staying with something they are ambush dogs I have a gsp and she hunts hard she found her own hog on her third hunt then she come in heat and havn't got to hunt her after that ive talked to a lot of people that has crossed gsp's and all of them love them they crossed them with Catahoula's, cur's, hounds, bull dogs and some reason was to put more nose into there dogs or just for the energy like my dogs if we hunt them 3 to 4 days straight they are worn out but my pointer 100mph nothing gets her down high spirited could probably run her a 100 miles a day and she will still be ready to go another 100miles I bred a plot to my gsp ill post how they turn out if she has any im expecting long rang high energy hunters but we'll see.
