Title: Coyotes
Post by: hank on June 21, 2009, 10:58:27 am
I was hog hunting this morning and the dogs bayed up a hog. As we were getting close something caught my ear as strange so I slowed up and listened and looked. There were two coyotes yipping away about 50yds behind the dogs. They were probably gonna come steal the hog if we hadn't come up. They backed off to about 150yds watching and yipping the whole time we were tieing the hog. I wanted to let the hog go and see if they would catch it but my buddy didn't want to teach them bad habbits.
 Caught 3 boar hogs, 120lbs, 60lbs, 60lbs, 1 sow 100lbs.
Didn't get any pics this morning, had camera trouble. Sorry.

You are the second person that I have heard say that about the coyotes. My husbands cousin said that he has had a coyote join his dogs in baying twice now. Caught a glimps of it on camera last time it happened. Hard to believe but neat.

I had a pair in on a cattle bay this week, right up in with the dogs untill rode up and they backed off a little. I have had them in on hog bays as well many times.

I had a coyote bay a sow with Dixie one night. We shined it and it left. We caught Dixie and the coyote bayed the sow about 100 yards from us. My buddy wanted to trya dn shoot it, I said no, we need to catch it and hunt it!!!

I also had a coyote come to the cow dogs one morning. I had two grown dogs and a pup on a wandering bull and the next thing I know a coyote was right there with them barking at the bull.  I rode up closer and he left wide open. Was neat to see though.

I have no idea what I would do if I came across a coyote let alone a wolf! Here we have wild dogs that get lost and end up livng in the forests , Most are not a problem until they meet up and pack together. Then they become a problem! I have had a few join in on my packs action but usually they are more then willing to either come home with you or act skiddish and then dig once you show up with the gun. I've got a Shepherd/Lab that on more then one occasion has gotten into it with wild dogs because they were growling or threatening me. Cool sight to see but scary as sh*t!

About a year ago me and a friend were out hunting one night and the dogs were tracking about med on the quick track.  We walked around this oak hammock all of a sudden all hell breaks loose behind us about 30 yards we knew it wasn't our dogs so I shine the light and there's a bagged up female coyote getting closer she probably came within 10 yards from us at one point but she followed us for about 50 yards doing this.  Wasn't really worried about her but shows what will happen when they have pups on the ground close by.
