Title: Re: Any Great Danes Worth Owning? Post by: cantexduck on February 07, 2013, 10:38:07 am If you can't find a pure Dane that hunts well why would you want to cross it ?
Title: Re: Any Great Danes Worth Owning? Post by: Demondoggers on February 07, 2013, 10:45:09 am For size! I'm getting a pit/dane tomorrow. He is gamey with the pit in him.
Title: Re: Any Great Danes Worth Owning? Post by: fonzie on February 07, 2013, 10:49:26 am I've heard good things bout pit/Danes... There was one in here for sale awhile back wish I had snatched him up!
Title: Re: Any Great Danes Worth Owning? Post by: chads7376 on February 07, 2013, 10:51:50 am I run two pit/dane gyps and love em.
Title: Re: Any Great Danes Worth Owning? Post by: Irondog87 on February 07, 2013, 11:43:12 am I had a 1/8 Dane 7/8 catohoula that was a great bay dog. Very rough and ain't legged sucker! Used as a RCD. Would stop em and bay alone then get real catchy with help then he would catch a hold!
Title: Re: Any Great Danes Worth Owning? Post by: buddylee on February 07, 2013, 03:24:45 pm My Dane/pit found hogs when I hunted him. Danes add nice size and temperament. The people breeding the crosses aren't looking for hound dogs. Their looking close to medium range extremely rough dogs that can hold most hogs easily.

When I let them out of the pens they b line it to the woods and start hunting whatever moves...mostly each other but we gunna get them on some bacon soon. I will post some updated pics tomorrow. Title: Re: Any Great Danes Worth Owning? Post by: chads7376 on February 08, 2013, 01:11:25 am I use both of my pit/danes as lead in dogs. I don't run rcd's. I love the tempermant of them and the way they lead. They catch just as hard as any pit I have owned without the out of control bs.

Post by: Border PP on July 21, 2013, 01:15:22 am If you can't find a pure Dane that hunts well why would you want to cross it ? This i agree with. I too think the pit x dane is amazing. Look at the two jaws coming together, head pieces, and builds. But i would only cross working stock to working stock. Hogs are caught in the brush I don't even like a big bull dog they can't move good enough when the dogs are big.
Title: Re: Re: Any Great Danes Worth Owning? Post by: Border PP on July 24, 2013, 04:54:57 am Ok I work with personal protection K9's but I frequently talk to hog hunters. Some of the same breeds are used in both faucets. I have a 105lb corso x pit that can move very well. I know two very well known breeders who breed dogs for both purposes. These dogs are around 140lbs. Now I'm not arguing or debating anything with you I'm just curious as to your thoughts you guys are the hog hunter I'm just hoping I can learn a little here and find what I'm after. I help run a facebook group called american bandogge mastiff and from time to time we go over hog stuff. I know this is what the dane was bred for and what about the dogo them are so e big catch dogs right. Now I also understand that people hog hunt all over the states from Hawaii to Texas to the south to northern California. I know different terrain calls for different dogs but I figure big dog can get in the brush on Texas and the south?

Title: Re: Any Great Danes Worth Owning? Post by: jpuckett on July 28, 2013, 12:03:02 pm I don't understand why you wouldn't just use a dogo.. They are bred for durability and stamina, along with incredible jaw power. I have a full blood great dane and he is an incredible pet. They just arent bred to have that kind of personality anymore. It seems like a whole lot of work to breed four generations of dane/pit/mastiff bloodlines to get what your looking for. When the original Dogo Argentino has already gone through that process. Thats just my opinion though.
