I was reading on the General Discussion about freeze branding and got to thinking. Does the TDHA have a dog brand registry. pay a small fee to have your brand placed in the books. Lets face it if you are like me I travel out of palo pinto county a good percentage of the time so the annex may not be any help. It would be like extra coverage when you travel. am I crazy or do yall think it could be done.

even somethng like that would be great but that is mainly for tags. I am just saying the brand it self being the link to the owner so if all else fails i.e.no collar or vest. It would do basically the same as the county clerk but on a larger scale. The only holes would be a person knowing to contact the TDHA, and 2 or more people having the same brand.

nosights - we are in the process of looking into a dog registry type program to make available for our members.  Still ironing out details on this and more programs.  I appreciate your idea and will submit it to the BOD.  

dont know if this is a stupied question.  But what do you do if you freeze brand a dog with your brand.  then you want to sale or get out of hunting or someting like that

Same as with any other branded livestock. I have sold branded horses in the past, and it is noted on the bill of sale along with a description of the animal.


I have my brand registered in a couple of counties, additionally my brand is registered with Crime Stoppers.

When I used to brand my show horses with the international angles system, it was registered to me. I would sell a horse, but not relinquish ownership of the brand. If my horse was ever in a bad situation, I would be the one to get the call on account of that horse's brand being registered to me. IT's a little different with that international angles brand though. Each brand is unique, containing the registration number and breed registry of the horse and it's year of birth.

Not the same as a ranch brand which is what our dogs carry.

I will get with the other BOD to be sure, but I would think if you are already a member of Tdha we can start a registry that can be seen online.

If you are not a Tdha member we will probably have a small fee to list it.

that would be really nice. not just because of the fact people can look up the brand info, but also if someone wanted to get a custom brand done they could look on the website and make sure that noone else has the same one that is all ready registered.

why not put a chip in his neck?

You can not see a chip in the neck and on top of that most people don't think to have a dog scanned.  If you see a dog with a brand you immediately think that someone thought enough of the animal to mark it as their's, perminantly.  Just how I see it....

I also being able to spot it from a distance is key. some cur dogs wont let a stranger get within 5 feet of them much less catch them. 

Krystal used to get all kinds of calls about "her dogs". Hog dogs tend to look like a rough sort, even the sweet ones. The odds of dear sweet granny getting close enough to a pit bull sleeping on her front porch to read his little collar tag is not very likely. However, she could see krystal's Ugly Dog Ranch badge on that vest from a distance and hence called in the lost dog.

If someone would get it started, I'd be inclined to buy an embroidered patch containing a serial number and a 1-800 number for each of my vests and cut collars. Something that you could see from a distance. That serial number would be able to be cross referenced so that when the number was called, I could be contacted that my dog had been found.

i would also do the same. I just have this fear of loosing a dog. I have lost some for hours and some You have to come back the next day. It is just a sickening feeling to know that my dog is out there and Iam in bed. I have my name and phone number on everything possible.

Tdha is in the process of making the registry. We will let yall know as soon as it is ready for use.

IF yall have more ideas for patches or other forms of identification, start up a discussion on the Tdha board and lets see what we can do. Thanks
