Title: Tire Size..
Post by: grittydog on February 13, 2013, 07:28:13 pm
I have 35'' on my truck now, but I am thinking about going back to 33''. The only reason I would go back is because of MPG. I have a 4 door long wheel base truck so I run over alot of curbs and the bigger the tire the easier it is. I run MT tire. What type and size tire do yall have the best luck with??

I run Mickey Thompson 33x12.5/18 atz, haven't had any problem crawling over a curb. Their in between an at and a mt, big lugs like a mt but not as big of a gap in between. Wanna say I've got about 50k on them and still have lots of tread. Only had a 16p nail in one, other than that no flats, and I run over everything. (I'm sure I will have a flat tomorrow having said that. Lol)  not real noisy on the highway either. Will prolly go with the same thing again when these wear out.

Anyone done a tread and mileage comparison on the Cooper STT and the Yokohama MT?

Running 285 STT currently. Great running tires but am doubtful on mileage so far.

Im runnin nitto trail grapplers 295 somethin on mine and I wont get another set.  The do great off road but they are heavy and loud on the highway.  Plus side is ive got over 30k on them, mostly highway and they seem to hold up well.

Where do yall find the best prices on tires? Discount tire is hard to beat, but if somebody can get better prices where is it at?

What size wheel? I like the 305/65-17 BFGs from discount tire.

Shipping wasn't as expensive as I thought it'd be either!

I use my local tire guy. Most of them have a lot of play on the prices. I shop around and get the best price I can online, then I call him and ask. If he comes out lower I'll take it, if not I give him the price I found and he always beats it, and mounts and balances for free when you buy them there. Try it with your local small owned shop, they might surprise you.

Toyos are the way to go! Little bit expensive but they last. I didn't have enough for them so I got 37x13.50x20 mud graps and I hate them. They look cool, but ware fast and are very loud. They roar at 30mph.

37's with split rim bead-lock rims straight off a HMMWV. I took the chrome center caps off.

Take a look at the Cooper AT 3. They are tough and get good life.
