My male blue lacy is about 1 and a half years old and hasnt been going too the other dogs bark/bay when we go hunting. he is crazy about hog in the bay pen just doesnt go too the bay what can i try too help? also when we get too the bay he goes crazy and starts baying!   thanks in advance

I know this sounds crazy but have you checked his hearing?

yeah his hearing is fine

Hard to say, but you might try tying him within site of the bay pen while you let the other dogs work.  after a few times, he might be interested to go to baying dogs..

let him get real excited before you let him go to the pen.  then, try tying he where he can't see and then see if he will go to the bay..

I run a few straight Lacy dogs myself, and mine usually start off the same way, just give them a little more time.  They are acting like typical Lacys sounds to me like. A Lacy is more a people oriented dog anyway and that is a way they show their loyalty.  JMO and $.02

I would definatly try the bay pen thing and then turning the dog loose to the other dogs baying. If that doesn't help you may try cutting back on your interactions with the dog... no petting or lov'n before you hunt, that kind of stuff.

Dont let the dog out of the box. just drive up to the bay as close as you can, try it for a couple hunts then see what he does

Hunt his tail off with as many dfferent dogs and situations as possible.  If he has it in him he will come around.  My male started off fast, then really slacked off at about 13-18 months old and now he is starting come around really nice.  I've been told sometimes lacy's mature more slowly than other cur breeds and start to mature around 2 years old.  From what I've seen with my dog I tend to agree.

I usually start off with the bay pen deal because it is a controlled situation. Leave him in the box and get worked up turn him out to the others. If your situation allows lengthen the turnout. Then go to a real live bay and try the same thing. Let him get worked up and hiss him along encourage him to go to the bay. Could even do it with a tied up hog. Make it a game to him but the first couple of times he has to win to become interested like a kid and checkers.

Sounds like he's a real good pen dog but, You need to try to start a wood dog off in the woods instead of a pen

I have just found if you have a solid progression to things the dogs pick it up faster. Sort of crawl before you walk. Walk before you run. If you start in the woods right away and go 0 for 10 = dry runs. What did you teach your dog? JMO he will pick it up faster with this type of progression and if he wins everytime at the beginning during his training period the faster the dog will pick up every other situation you put him or her in. But again we all pick up things at different times.

try putting him in the pen/kennel with your strike or finder dog or dogs. Let them buddy up for a week or so. Always worked for us

bingo, what caddo said, its a hard thing to wrap your brain around sometimes but curs dont belong to you, they are propery of the alpha, so if you have a dog that knows the drill then give your youngun to them
