Title: Ever trash broke a jagd? Post by: hansonw on March 02, 2013, 12:23:53 am Never owned one but almost bought one a million times. I'm not looking really to get one but think about it alot. I want one just for a mean a** little truck dog and a buddy. They don't really fit my style of hunting but who has ever fully trashed broke one? I would imagine it would be harder than most breeds but still possible. But I hear all the time how they catch whatever than can dillos, opossums, chipmunks, squirrels, rats skunks heck they probably catch frogs and lizards. Just wondering who has seen it or done it where it only wanted hogs.

Title: Re: Ever trash broke a jagd? Post by: justincorbell on March 02, 2013, 11:32:03 am I have owned a few, never really "trash broke" any, when they were about 6mths old i started totin em to the woods, i only turned em out when my old curr dog opened up and they would haul tail to the bay as soon as i put em on the ground. My best started finding and catchin hogs at around 7mths old, granted they were pigs 25-40lbs a piece but a hog is a hog. They are crazy hyper, and can be mean as the devil....i had 2 littermate brothers that i raised from pups....they started out fine but at 6mths old something clicked and they HATED each other. First and only time they really tied into it that I know of they durn near killed each other before i could get em seperated. After that they were chained on opposite ends of the yard, they are crazy little dogs and fast a lightning. Think real hard before you buy one, they demand alot of attention/exercise and most are rough rough rough.

Post by: MrsLouisianaHogDog on March 02, 2013, 12:07:36 pm I will have one soon I'm working on getting here from Alabama from a member on here that I'll be usin on hogs. I imagine they are similar to the Patterdales, which I do know real well. We use a Patt all the time, and he has "yet" to trash on anything. He knows what we're out there looking for. Not saying it's not a possibility that he would, as he is a terrier afterall. I plan on makin mine a truck buddy too, lol.

Title: Re: Ever trash broke a jagd? Post by: hansonw on March 02, 2013, 11:38:55 pm Yeah they seem like it would be more for chits and giggles for me but I know there are some pretty serious jagd hunters out there And they can't make a real hog dog so it's not like I think they can't make a dog bc from what I hear the they have the most insane prey drive ever. I think the fun part of owning one Would be he is game to eat up every thing sounds like the perfect lil buddy to ride in the truck to the grocery store or have hanging with you in the woods. The only thing that has kept me from getting one is the ol lady's wiener dog. I'm scared tHat one day the lil joker would just go in kill mode and rip her head off and I would have to put the ol lady down to lol. But I'm pretty dang tight with the dashund to just can't let the ol lady know we are that tight lol might make me less manly.

Title: Re: Ever trash broke a jagd? Post by: Muddogkennels on March 12, 2013, 12:44:13 am train them in a pen until 6 months where there nuts for hogs . drop them on bayed hogs with other dogs an a lot of mock hunts help keep them only on pigs . then after they turn a year start leting them run after a bay . within a month a jagd should be able to strike on his own. ... just my way i trash brake them . use trash broken dog is a must ...lol my mock hunt i use a 100 lb pig i tie a 10 lb mushroom ancher to a dog lead an then hobble 1 back leg duck tape it so it dosnt come loose. an end in a good note .... thats a must...if u think it went bad while training them this means hit hard from the hog . tease them with a shoak after help them forget the hard hits they took..
