Title: Old dog? Post by: Shotgun wg on March 02, 2013, 10:44:24 pm Guy I hunted with today bought a dog last night. This dog is 8 year old catahoula. Took it out today and it apeared to be hunting well. It got of by itself and we were having trouble finding it and couldn't get the others to go to it. Well after we headed home the guy that owned this dog saw a few pigs cross the road. Well he dropped it out. After a min or so garmin showed bayed but he couldn't hear her. He dropped his best dog to join her. He said he got to the dog and it was just circleing no bark just circle. His other dog got there and they caught. My question is. Has anyone seen a dog that bayed completely silent. Is this just the dog being with new owner and not comfortable yet? Is it possible with time this dog may start to bark on bay.as I said this dog showed great all day other than it wouldn't bark.

His sire was like this some times he woudent bark but a couple times every few minutes. Hard to train dogs with a dog like this but if you get used to it and your dogs get used to it it seems to work well on some hogs. Know my dog held some hogs for a good while and never barked till I called his name. Is a pain but. If yall ever hunted with jay hutto his old dog dan is the dog I speak of. Get used to it and with the garmin you will like it. Most of the hunts with dan were pre garmin and it was a pain in his side
