Title: dogs in thw house?
Post by: dodgegirl on March 09, 2013, 07:14:48 pm
Who all keeps a dog or two in the house?

I have two dogs I keep in the house. A big male dogo, and a little 5 pound mutt. I keep the dogo in the house just in case someone uninvited decides to stop by. But I have a friend who keeps a bunch in the house, man you get smacked in the face with a dog smell when you walk in their house.

I have a male Dogo in the house, along with an old female lab mix.  Dogo's don't really shed much or have much dog smell, so they're not too bad.

100# white lab male and a 90# black female lab. Both are washed weekly. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/10/jeve7yju.jpg) he's enough to keep the uninvited out.

I kept my best friend in the house for 7 years, just so happens she was lab, she literally showered slept and ate and traveled everywhere with me, i lost her almost a year ago and I still think about her daily, she was the perfect dog.......thats another story.

When We get a new puppy or puppies i keep em inside a week or two kinda to bond with the family i guess then they move to the back porch where they have access to roam the yard, once they start roamin off my little 2 acre property they get put in a kennel then to a chain around 7mths.

Sorry about your loss Justin. I lost my girl roxy a few months ago, I still tear up every now and then when I look around the yard and know I won't see her.

that is the way I look at it also, gives you and the dog a chance to get on the same level more or less, I think a dog that is brought up (esp. from a puppy) with more interaction will end up being a better dog for no other reason than they will learn what you expect from them from an early age.

We keep 100lb plus dog in the house. Let me first say that I'm very funny about smells in my house. He is 100% house broke, gets a bath regularly with dawn ( because their body oils smell), I wash his bedding regularly, and besides the regular vaccuming, mopping, and dusting, I air the house out frequently. He has been in the house for over a year and so far we don't have a problem with dog odor. Having him in the house requires extra work and effort but he is so worth it. I sleep just fine at night when my husband is working nights knowing that he would maul anyone who enters our house uninvited. Best security system ever.

Guess I have a sensitive sniffer.  ;D

But every single dog ....no matter the size shape or color....smells and acts like a dog.
So far I haven't been able to keep one from licking his privates and sniffing every rear end in sight. Ain't gonna have that then allow them to touch everything in my house where me and the family reside.

Love dogs....but leave them stinking butt sniffers outside.  :D

NO ANIMALS in the house. to me, my dogs are my dogs, they are not my family or human. Tho I like them more than most humans they are still just dogs.
Tho, I can understand Mrs. Dinahs point and reason.
Ain't sayin anybody's wrong, right, or indifferent. Just how I feel about the topic.

Swamp hunter.   Pretty sure your house is safe lol

I have a 60 pound English bulldog.  She is my partner.  But se does shed bad but wife cleans more and she gets baths weekly.  It also helps cause only times she goes out is to potty so she never gets that smell

My first born (11 year old lab) stays inside. Always has. She has better manners than most people and I have more respect for her than most people I know. Also keep our ridgeback gyp inside. Nobody comes through the door unless she says so. She is also our daughter's keeper so to speak. I can't even act like I'm trying to play rough with the wife or baby.

That aint no kidding, my catdo terrorizes my wife everyday. She wont listen to my wife and i keep tellin her thst if she dont set a pecking order with the pup, its gonna be he!! when gets full grown. Any good advise for my wife? She has tried spanking her and popping her in the mouth for biting and spook thinks its play time and she get more playfully aggressive. I can pop her and get a stern voice with spook and she listens. Are dogos  a 1 dominent owner type dog?

Our dogos are the same way. My pops and I make sure they know that we are the boss. There's a time for play but when we say quit they better quit. My stepmom has no control over them. She babies them. They jump all over her, they pull when she walks them. I think it has a lot to do with showing them youre the leader from a young age. Dogos are a very dominate breed. If they think you're below them they will not respect you.

On that note dodgegirl and fixitlouie, spook has asserted dominance over my wife. She aint but 3-4mth old, so i guess my wife better lay down the pecking order asap.

i made the mistake of bonding with my male when he was very young. I needed to make sure that he knew that I was the boss. I should have made sure that WE were the boss. I was thinking of having him neutered to curve the leg raising, my wife wants to have me neutered for different reasons.lol:o

Title: Re: dogs in thw house?
Post by: dodgegirl on March 12, 2013, 06:50:12 pm
I think you need to bond with them. But you also need them to know that everyone in the "human" pack is above them. Dogos are very loyal dogs. Once they know their place they will do everything possible to please you.

Charles as of right now they seem to do ok with the both of us but far as saying no or keeping them in line they won't listen to my girl , the youngest is real hard headed though I mean SHE IS STRAIT STUBBORN !i guess time will tell

Title: Re: Re: dogs in thw house?

there are plenty of techniques. your wife NEEDS to show dominance ASAP. like most breeds of this type will grow up thinking he can only listen to you. and left like this at 2 yrs super hard to handle. pm me and i will tell you what i did to my boy. he is hard headed.
