Title: clearing the air...
Post by: cuttingup on March 18, 2013, 06:36:04 am
1st off I'm not posting this to start no ruckus..just getting something straight and opening someone's understanding... a buddy of mine who is on this forum is getting messaged about why we're not catching more hogs basically whats wrong with our dogs...1st off we don't put every time we catch or don't hogs we dont put evertime we go to the potty or wipe our rearend on here....2nd  We're  not privileged to hunt on private property thats not bee dogged or farmland where you can dump dogs on 10-15 hogs that your looking at  ...so under our circumstances we're doing pretty good...so if all the ingredients is right you'll catch pigs...again just clearing the air on this situation so don't go throwing rocks at someone unless you know the whole story...

X2 Southeast Texas hunting is a little different.....very rarely have I caught multiple hogs on a hunt! 3 or 4 is a bunch to me! ;D Plus in the thickets we hunt in u look like shredded pasta after a couple bays! :D Just saying!! Lol

As you know guys you have people in this sport just like in others.. Their glory hounds!! In it for "hey look at me, look what I done" I don't need to post pictures of hogs or post a story of the hunt to feel good. I hunt for the love of it and to see the look on my boys faced when we catch is priceless.. I know plenty of hunters that post nothin of there hunts or hogs. So don't rip someone if they choose not to, and I wouldn't run any mans dogs down if I hadn't saw them hut...

If this is directed at me, heres my side:

Well I PM'd SeTxhogdogger on here and asked why Everytime someone posted catching more then one hog, why he posted something critical or smart a$$ sounding.  I probably didn't have no right but I was curious.

The guy is hunting with Jeremy Mansfield and I've talked with Jeremy a few times and he's a great guy with some nice sounding dogs.  I just explained that some people have great dogs that can really produce hogs where there is no hogs, and that's the truth.

We PM'd and it was friendly.  I also explained that your dogs and hunting style determines how many hogs you catch as much as the property does.

Don't sit and tell me though that you've got GOOD dogs because they can wind a hog 100 yds off the road, that's not a hog dog.  There's people on here with straight HOG DOGS, that do amazing work was my point.

And by no means is this a pissing match just facts, no feelings need to be hurt.

I didn't post anything critical. How is saying I wish my lease had lots of hogs being critical? And how do you produce hogs where there are none? I wasn't saying we have great dogs just because they can wind. We have caught a lot of hogs with them. No dog is perfect yes there are some better some worse. Its just different hunting where we have to hunt its super thick like walls a lot of places. I'd like to know what area you hunt? And I'm not downing nobody else by no means

its all leases, or hunting clubs. Once the hogs are dogged for a while and feel pressure they get very scarce and either push across the river or move into a different lease

I have junky dogs, I came to the great state of TX and hunted for pretty much 48 hrs straight and struck out  ;D the difference I know what a hog dog should be and I'm here to tell you I don't own one  ;)

I hunt the same country as you, east TX is pretty much the same as mine. I've got easy hogs and then I've got hogs that run and run and run and run. I wasn't being rude, just making an observation to open your eyes alittle to something different.

Do you honestly feel like your place is the only place like this, your hogs are no different then anyones, and there's pressured hogs everywhere, just join the club cuz we are all in the same boat!

Man that's a fact.....makes it hard to figure out pups sometimes. Have one set up relatively easy one day then the next trip it's off to the races....ON THE SAME PIECE OF LAND! Lol...frustrating.

I think my cousin is trying to explain that some folks post hunts like "caught and tied 19 before 10am this morning" ........that's just nearly impossible in places we hunt! I would also like to see hogs produced where there are none!! Lol ;D I feel like my dogs are good ...but not miracle workers!! Maybe if I could teach em to pray we could catch more hogs!?! Don't ever remember talking to ya but then again I've talked to dozens of folks about hog doggin and my memory ain't that good!!! Lol Anyway its all good I just do this for fun!!

Do your dogs roll out? (My dream dog, lol) The guys that have dogs that roll out can usually put a nice stringer together...no matter the terrain.

Man your sweating the small stuff. Who gives a chit about what others think. Seems like if a feller enjoys feeding the dogs he's got, enjoys
hunting the dogs he's feeding on the property he has available to hunt then that's all you can do. I have access to a lot of land that has
NO hogs, have access to a real small piece that has a few. We kill a hand full a year.  I don't think Ben is dogging you or throwing rocks at you.

Man, i agree with jimco 100%. Be glad u got land to, even though it may sparsely populated and that dang east tx chain saw brush n briars. Some folks aint go no land except public land to hunt. I miss ne and a lil of deep east tx bc of the public land, compared to where im at now. There is a lota land, lota hunters and some land where previous hunters hav screwed it for every1 else after they were kicked off. Just be glad u got the land

Confusing for the north east Texas simple minds..........

Land and dogs make the difference. Dogs more so then land. Good land just brings out the best faster in a dog.

I'm gonna take a guess an say your dogs are rough
I have hunted rough dogs an loose dogs the rough dogs usally catch singles
The loose dogs bay groups an catch one they roll with group = more hogs in short time

Who cares if you catch a hog or not? It's called hunting!!! I hope you go to enjoy working dogs and that outdoors. If you go for anything less you don't need to be in this sport.
