any one have any exp. or want 2, on doggin hogs in the salt marsh?

I've caught a few in the marsh.You have to know some short cuts to make it easier on you and your dogs.Not all dogs are cut out to be marsh mutts. lol
I've hunted all over the tx coast and I hunt different styles for different areas.
It takes longer to get to the dogs in the marsh than on upland, so a running catch dogs don't last long in the marsh. There seems to be more older muture big boars in the marsh cause they not hunted & trapped as much.You must have good dogs and do everything just right if you bay MR. BIG.. in the marsh especally in a big cane break.Them old big & wise marsh boars have been known to whip all the dogs & you to if you want some. :)Then when you get your courrage built up you step through the swamp grass on a 8 or 10 foot gator.I've heard some people describe people that hunt the texas wild boar in the marshes a little crazy. ;)But then aint we all a little crazy trompen around at night after hogs with a knife ???? ;D

Ya, its just like any thing else. Them hogs know the trails alot better than your dogs and you most likely. Hogs and Gators use the same trails....  :o

Speaking of marshes my mom's side of the family used to run cattle on Hall's Bayou ranch back in the day, wouldn't marsh hunting be a prime place for the ultimate 4X4, a horse or four legged mule?

Also take a note off the duck hunters, argos or 6x6 rangers

If your marshes are like ours.  There isnt anything solid enough to support a horse or atv of any sort.  It is like walking on a trampoline at best if you can stay up on the grass.  Get off the grass roots and you will be crotch deep in mud w/ a quickness. ::)

Nah it was hard enough back there to run cattle on, and I think a few people keep rodeo bulls back there still. It's mainly Gulf Cordgrass and tallow tree motts last time I was back there.

Thanks, I use to keep some dogs. Ever sence the storm i had 2 give up owning dogs. Been gun hunting these marsh hogs with good luck. They are pretty thick in this area. Just wanted to know if any one close 2 my area with exp. dogs for this type of hunting would want 2 go gettem. There are some big hogs in the place im talkin bout. And i know this place hasnt been dogged in years.

hey there instagator thats a good looking hog.  what method did you use to bleach the skull

If you're talking about Orange to Beaumont area we've got a few marsh dogs we hunt the MS and LA marshes with... wouldn't mind slipping across the Sabine and seeing if the TX marsh is any different.
