Title: Breast plates in the summer
Post by: Dogs,hogs,coons on April 14, 2013, 06:23:20 pm
Heat strokes in CD's seem to happen a lot during the summer. Especially with vests. I had this experience last summer. I was thinking of just buying a breast plate.
 Thoughts,pros,cons,pictures,brands.

I always keep the vest off the CD until I am about to turn him loose (in the summer). I was thinking about getting a bikini for this summer but we hunt mostly at night and usually wait till 11 or 12 so it cools off alot. But the bikini seems to work good in hot weather!

I don't think a breast plate would be enough protection...

You would probably get a good CD killed.

I wouldnt run a breasted plate on a Cd because while the Cd has the hogs ear the Cd usually takes a beating on the sides not just the chest

we dont put vest on our dogs in the summer because of heat strokes. the only problem with hauling the vest is they dont seem to get to hot when riding, if you haul a vest around all day and put it on at the bay and the hog breaks and the bulldog decides to go hes gonna get hot might as well put it on them so you wont have to keep up with it . i personally think they have more risk of heat stroke then getting killed by a hog. use 2 bulldogs so one wont have to take all the beating. and you might could try using a schock collar and make the bulldog come back after the hog breaks
