This 11 footer was in this corn field last week here in southeast AR. Now I don't know if they catch bay dogs very often but I do know folks that have lost dogs miles from a road but close to a swamp.

I know a guy that about 10yrs ago lost his deer dog. Had a beep beep collar on it and all of a sudden it quit tracking. He thought it may have gotten ran over or something but last summer a mans pond dried up and the man found a tracking collar at the bottom of pond and turned out to be the collar that was on the missing dog. There was a gator in the pond around the time he disappeared but can't prove whether that's what got him but I'm willing to bet that's what got him.

I buddy of mine lost one last week to a gator in the anahuac area..........collar quit tracking at a big canal and when they got there a 10' plus gator was swimming not 20yds from where the collar quit tracking............sucks but that is part of hunting the marsh/swamps around here in the spring/summer.

I agree Justin anywhere south of 10 in that area is known for it... Good friend of mine chance Hanna lost several dogs a couple years ago in the same area.

yep, and it sucks because that land is plum loaded down with hogs.........and big alligators. We used to hunt a big piece of land in Labelle but I refused to hunt it past about feb. because it was loaded with hogs but had even more alligators.........I've never seen more alligators in one place before in my life and I've grown up in SETEX. that place was crazy, 1 night I watched one of my dogs step on not one but 2 alligators in the same hunt, it was still cold and I believe thats why the dog didn't become dinner but we pretty much quit hunting out there, I don't know about you but I have a few good dogs and I dang sure don't wanna loose one of em to a damn lizard!!!

A couple of years ago we were hunting on a ranch not too far from Anahuac game refuge where they had rice planted. The dogs crossed a canal and we heard what sounded like a dog fight break out right on the other side of the canal. We all ran to see which dogs had tied in to it. When we got to the canal, someone shined a spotlight and a buddies dogs was swimming at top speed back across towards us and there was a big gator right on her tail. James grabbed a 30-30 off of the wheeler and started shooting at the gator. It went under and the dog made it to us. She had teeth puncture holes all up and down her front leg.

I guess that what sounded like a dog fight was that dog putting a whoopin on that gator. Lol, its the first time that I have ever heard of a dog getting loose from a gator after it latched on. She was a tough old dog. :)

We are very careful not to hunt around gators in the warm months.

No this picture has been around for years, it pops up about this time every year for the last couple of years that I know of. As far as gators eating dogs, I know of quite a few lost to gators especially from some Florida and Alabama buddies.  They always seem to get the best dog on the ground to.

I lost a really good hog dog a few years back to a 7 footer in Atacosa County.  Terrible shame, she wasn't even two years old and was already making a strike dog.  Parts of the ranch I hunt are infested with lizards, so I stay away from those areas.
Lizards fall into the same category as javelinas, the only live ones I want to see are in a zoo.  Anywhere else, it should be open season.  Just my 2 cents.
