Title: Great Hogdogger died last night!! Post by: hogdogger98 on May 04, 2013, 10:04:52 pm I live in Central Arkansas and have been messing with dogs and hogs for 10 years. I originally had catahoulas and wanted to do the baypen thing!! I met Mr Bud Johnson in May of 2003 little did I know was that he was going to be my second father!! Bud hated catahoualas and hunted redbones and he had bred a line of dog he named a T-bone cur 5/8 redbone and 3/8 colby pit these dogs looked just like a plott with a ton of heart and grit. Bud did more for our hog population in north Arkansas than anyone else has,you see he imported hogs from Europe. He forgot more about hogs and dogs than most of us young guys will ever learn. Bud had hogs get out of his brood pens for years. I remember we were training puts back in 2005 I had a catahoula named Buster a big 70lbs dog I guess he was the only cat Mr Bud liked, we would load a hog and take to his creek and let it go and then go back and get the dogs well this night in march 2005 I went with Bud one night after work he wanted to work some redbone pups so I took Buster because he was only 2 and needed more experience. Well 2 of his redbones took the track of the boar we turned out and there were 2 pups hanging around us well buster went over 100yrds and bayed a hog that weighed about 150 or so and buster was very rough well he decided to catch this hog by himself in the creek. Bud hated his hogs getting chewed on so I went down in the creek to catch the hog well the hog was squealing and it got those redbone pups fired up and ole Bud said jut let Buster chew on him to let them redbones get a taste after awhile he told me to get Buster off well Buster was tired and I was going down the creek bank and that hog slung him off and came straight after me and the only place I had to go was the water to keep that hog off of me. I thought Bud would pass out laughing so hard at me trying to get away from that hog!! Bud Johson was one heck of a christian man my daddy died when I was 16 and I'm 33 for the past 10 years has been there for me I just hope he knew how much I loved him, I was the only kid he had that liked hog hunting with him. He gave me his dogs, tracking system and a custom dog box. I would give it all back if I could just call him and tell him how hunt went. He sure will be missed. He had suffered with cancer the last 3 years u know he is in know pain now though.

Title: Re: Great Hogdogger died last night!! Post by: hogdogger98 on May 05, 2013, 08:39:29 am He was definitely one of a kind. They found the cancer 2 yrs ago and he decided he wasn't going to do chemo because he didn't want to be sick the rest of his life. He gave me all his Russian brood stock last year but I left a 3 legged boar and a meat hog at his place. I was working a pup in his bay pen and this 3 legged hog decided he was gonna get me. Well I was standing on a stump about 3 foot tall videoing my pup baying and this dang 3 legged boar dang near got me off the stump, trying to stay away I lost my balance and if anyone ever tells you that you can outrun a hog around a tree ha they lied to you the only thing that saved me was my ybmc female. Bud wasn't feeling good that day so I went in the house to tell the story about the hog getting the best of me and I could tell he was imaging me running around the stump. Bud loved his hogs and dogs. I hadn't talked to him for the last 2 weeks because he couldn't hold the phone. He was someone I called everyday to tell about my dogs. I know it also made him a little happier his last months. Rip old friend.

Title: Re: Great Hogdogger died last night!! Post by: hogdogger98 on May 05, 2013, 07:31:37 pm I mentioned in the previous story Bud raised pure Russian hogs. In December 06 Bud called me and ask me to come up and help him get a big wild boar out of his puppy training pen. I didn't own a catch dog and even if I would have I couldn't have caught this hog by myself even in 06 he was to old to help catch a big hog. I loaded up and went to his house and we decided to put about 5 or 6 redbones and a blue heeler in the pen. None of our dogs would get close enough to that big boar to put enough pressure to get him to get out of the pen. I told him I have a dog that would chew that hogs balls off so I went to my truck and got my 2 yr old dog BJ and turned him in and of course first thing he tried to do was catch that big boar. That hog was so bad I was on a Honda foreman and that hog charged the 4 wheeler with me on and picked the front up when he hit it. I didn't know whether to stay on the wheeler or jump off and run well that boar caught BJ between him and the fence and whooped his but. The dog didn't even have a scratch but he was done for the day. This boar was as full blooded as the hogs in Bud's brood pen. Y'all have to understand that the hog was probably raised in bud's brood pen's but just happened to get out when it was young and decided to come home. There are more Russian blood in the hogs around greenbrier arkansas than anywhere else in Arkansas. Tomorrow in honor of Bud I am taking a pup out of the last litter he raised 1/2 pit 1/2 redbone and try to catch some hogs on a farm about 5 miles from his house.. I have no doubt he will be watching over me every time I go hog hunting!!
