Anyone own one have anything good/ bad to say about them?

I'm getting one tomorrow it's a 98 and the old guy has every receipt for all the oil changes and service that's every been done to it, he was the only owner and it only has a 108,000 miles on it.. This thing is spotless garage kept!

Any comments would be appreciated.

VERY solid trucks, reliable of course depending on the condition. Sounds like it's been kept clean. Has low mileage too.

Yeah, all they did was pull a camper on the weekends since he bought it average about 6000 miles a year and from what I hear that's nothing for these cummins  trucks just making sure, I hear lots of good things

I have an 01 with almost 500,000 miles on it and the engine needs to be rebuillt. So 100,000 miles is nothing.

If standard great is auto get a upgraded tranny the orgional trammy will fup on u sometimes

Got an 02 which is the same generation as your getting. I just ordered a new throttle positioning sensor because I get dead pedal sometimes and the transmission slips in and out of overdrive.  It has 150k  I got it at 105k and all my problems started at about 130k.  But other than that I can complain.  Paints flaking off and dash is cracked but thats very common on a dodge so you already know that. Hope your truck is standard. I wish mine was

1998 Is a split year for Dodge diesel trucks.   If you are lucky, you just bought a 1998 12valve with a quad cab.  If not, you just bought the first year of the 24valve trucks.

If it's a standard, find out if the 5th gear nut has been fixed as well as the dowel pin if it's a 12valve.

If it's the 24valve, they have a different set of "issues".  APPS, injector pump, lift pump....     Just like any truck, Ford, Dodge,Chevy, they all have their own little problems that will come up.  You just have to figure out if you have a 12v or 24v, then you can get plenty of help from one of the various cummins message boards when the occasional problem arises.

The eng n tck is good, the tranny SUCKS, especially if they hav been worked hard. I think it 98-01 or 02 that had crappy autos. Dependin on $ of tck, if it me n i had the $, id jump on it n order a xmsn from ats n send the old 1 to them as a core

It's not that the 24v automatic are not good, it's just not quite as desirable as the simple 12v...

One of my trucks is a 2002 24v with a 6 spd, and engine wise,  to date I have only had to put one injector pump, and the truck currently has over 200k.  

The 1998 Automatic should be a 47re.   When it goes out, spend the coin on a built transmission. Not one from the local transmission shop, plan on spending a few grand, and have one built that will hold up for the long haul.

This thing was really well kept up, thanks got all the advice all in all I you were in my shoes you would buy it?

Wished I still had my old 24V cummins instead of the 6.7 litter. But now that I did the deletes it runs good. I would buy it if I needed a truck and had the $$$$.

Till the warrenty expires, i cant mess with this dang 6.7. If id know the mpg was gonna be just as crappy as the 4500, i'da gotten a 4500 with flat bed n 4x4 for the same price n i wouldnt be lookin for a gooseneck hitch to put in mine.

I had mine done before the 100K ended as the yrs expired first. Plus the dealership would not fix the plugged DPF filter that they replaced less then a year before for same reasons.

You will think it is made of gold . Love my cummins . Take care of it and it will last for ever . I'v seen the 12v's run over a half mill. miles !!!!!
