Title: Plott Hound questions Post by: justincorbell on May 06, 2013, 03:34:20 pm I am looking at the UKC application for permenant registration papers for a plott puppy, I noticed that on the in front of both of the parents names that it says "PR" further down the paper is says that "PR" indicates a sire or dam as "purple ribbon" bred........... "PR" is in front of both the dam and sires names so obviously this means that the pup is out of a "purple ribbon" breeding......... Here is my question, what the heck does "purple ribbon" bred mean??? the only papers i have ever dealt with regarding dogs were for my labs and I didn't see any mention of this back then.......not that I would have paid enough attention anyway lol.
soooo question # 1) what test or multiple tests does a plott need to successfully complete to be purple ribbon bred OR does it just have something to do with genetics/ conformation/ breed standard etc etc??...........bear with me, I am completely ignorant in the registration dept. lol question # 2) and I know this is a random one BUT does anyone recognize the name Matt Noviskie from the bellville area?? for some reason this name seems familiar to me from this site in the past as well, maybe not but the last name sticks out, anyway Mr. Noviskie is or at least was the owner of both parents when this pup was born. If possible I would like to get into contact with him to talk a bit about the parents, if you know him OR if by chance you are him lol please shoot me a text or give me a shout sometime to talk about these dogs. Thanks for any and all help! Your pup will have PR in front of his/her name too. It really doesnt mean sqaut and you dont have to pay any attention to it.
Do know the fellow you mentioned but I would be happy to talk with you about other dogs in the pedigree if I know them. Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: hillbilly on May 06, 2013, 03:47:57 pm Every dog registered with ukc is purple ribbon bred. To be anything else they have to earn it. Like being nite champion or champion.

Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: justincorbell on May 06, 2013, 04:02:27 pm Thanks for answering so quickly gentlemen, like I said I have ZERO experience with papers (other than my labs) and ZERO experience with plotts. Appreciate the answer and when I get the papers back in with the pedigree I will re-post up to see if anyone knows anything about the dogs down the lines.
Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: justincorbell on May 06, 2013, 04:12:18 pm What did u get a plott pup for justin? U gonna take up coon huntin? lol Travis, I was expecting that.............. :P, don't worry buddy theres still plenty enough yella in my yard to keep catchin pigs! >:D Its a long story honestly............ I went to pick up some small pigs to raise and to drop off a gyp to be bred (pigs didn't quite work out right but thats a whole nother story lol...... however I will say piglet backstraps taste AWESOME ;D) Well I ended up bringing home a registered plott puppy with the pigs. When I got there he came straight to me and my other 1/2 and he kinda just took to us.....after a bit of back and forth he ended up coming home with us, he seems to be very smart and is a good lookin little sucker, he "helped" me butcher the pigs....if thats what you wanna call it.........he had pig parts all over the place yesterday lol. Anywho Travis, I don't know if you have ever been in a situation like that before but it just kinda happened, I DID NOT go over there looking to bring him home, hell I had never even seen him before yesterday......... just kinda worked out that way lol. Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: Bar R Ranch on May 06, 2013, 04:31:31 pm All dogs registered with UKC arent automatically given the 'Pr' in front of their names. It just means that all the dogs in the three generation pedigree were registered with UKC. If there is a single registered dog in the three generation pedigree then they wont have a 'Pr' in front of theire names. I hope that makes sense. If it doesnt you can look it up on the UKC webpage.
Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: jassenswisher1974 on May 06, 2013, 04:49:02 pm As of right now the National Plott Hound Association who governs the Breed standard for registering dogs will NOT allow an open registration meaning if a plott has no papers it will never have papers. They closed it a long time ago. 95% of the registered Plott hounds in America are UKC.
Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: jassenswisher1974 on May 06, 2013, 04:52:37 pm Forgot to add this, Every Plott with the UKC is a "PR" because of the closed registration. Whats the Dam and Sire of your Plott?

Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: hoghunter71409 on May 06, 2013, 07:29:14 pm Hey Swish, you can still register a dog if it does not have papers as long as the parents are registered. Look at the single dog registry. You have toe list the pedigree on the registration form, send pictures, and get a signed letter from the owner of the dam at the time of birth. I've done it with two dogs in the past 6 months.
Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: jassenswisher1974 on May 06, 2013, 08:01:36 pm If the parents are papered you can but if parents arent papered you can not single file register a plott.

Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: halfbreed on May 06, 2013, 08:53:56 pm the dogs will get the pr label when the dogs can be traced back so many generations . as of now there are a few of the newly recognized leopard ; cur ; hounds that are pr bred , but more that are not .
Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: halfbreed on May 06, 2013, 08:57:30 pm here I went and found it for you .
What does “Purple Ribbon” mean? "Purple Ribbon" is a distinction UKC gives to a dog if all 14 ancestors within a dog's three generation pedigree (parents, grandparents, great grandparents) are each registered with United Kennel Club. Purple Ribbon is indicated by the letters “PR” at the beginning of a dog’s name and also by a comma (,) instead of a dash (-) within the dog’s UKC number. In order to receive a complete Seven Generation pedigree (showing 254 ancestors), the dog’s parents must both be registered as Purple Ribbon. A Six Generation pedigree for the dog that was not produced by Purple Ribbon parents may have some “Open” entries depending on the availability of pedigree information on record with UKC. UKC will automatically add the letters 'PR' to the beginning of the dog's registered name and the 'PR' will not count toward the 30 characters and spaces limitation for the allowable length of the dog's registered name. Yes sir, i plan on it, believe it or not there is more often then not a hound or hound x in my yard. My 1st true hogdog was a walker named amos, he was a goodun! I lost him to multiple snakebites... I actually had a good young walker gyp when i moved to china a couple years ago, she came up missing....while I was out of town..... Any way, i plan on seeing him thru, always thought hounds in general were cool dogs. Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: TRTI on May 09, 2013, 01:56:15 pm I have the parents of your pup. They do hunt and are out of good stock. Look the bloodlines up at Rockinwplotts and White Deer preserve kennels. Matt raised them. I have only had them a few weeks. I am very pleased with them.
Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: justincorbell on May 09, 2013, 03:14:07 pm TRT1, are you using them solely for hogs or are they more of utility dogs for you? Did I hear right that both the parents went to a hunting ranch? I am assuming you would be that ranch?
Title: Re: Plott Hound questions Post by: TRTI on May 09, 2013, 03:34:00 pm Yes-- I hunt hogs with them. I have only hunted the male. I like him. I hunt on horseback and mostly shoot over my dogs. He did not mind either one and I do not htink he had ever hunted that way. I have 3 ybc and 3 half hounds. A friend has cowdogs most all 1/2 - 1/4 plott he uses to daywork with. I also coon hunt a little.
