Title: Re: Shepherd for a strike dog Post by: MrsLouisianaHogDog on May 15, 2013, 04:07:41 pm Just my two cents on my personal experience in working with GSD's....
They make for some great man biters aka law enforcement dogs, and trackers, and family dogs......but MOST (not saying all) that I have dealt with in a medical setting, had TERRIBLE pain tolerance. I'm talkin, yelpin and yippin when they get vaccines, or blood drawn, or anything where they feel anything, lol. So I'd HATE to see what one would do should it actually get struck by a hog out in the woods while tracking or baying. I just wouldn't count on one to hang in there if shat gets real, lol. Title: Re: Re: Shepherd for a strike dog Post by: Fixitlouie on May 15, 2013, 05:04:42 pm yes, I grew up with GSDs and thought they were tuff, then I got a dogo and hunted behind some gritty bmc....no comparison..anyhoo. I am looking forward to this venture and will keep ya posted

I wish you luck but I would stick with natural stock dogs for hogs and Shepards for man trackers and police work. Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.
Title: Re: Shepherd for a strike dog Post by: brushbusters on May 15, 2013, 05:41:15 pm I would question their heat tolerance?
