Title: Help!!!!
Post by: Logan-99 on May 28, 2013, 09:23:59 pm
Started trapping a week ago after I built my new hog tailer. Caught alot of hogs last week and today I had one die in the trap. Couldn't get her earlier because I had dang school. So I went to all my trapping places and moved my traps under good trees with shade. I hate losing hogs in heat and I don't get out of school till Friday. Any tips y'all have for me to keep my hogs alive longer? Thanks. And I have the landowners call me every morning to tell me if I have anything

Put water in the trap and put them in the shade.

best advice is don't set them till you can run them  .  but other than that keep them in a shady spot all day long and out of the heat as best you can  .  it's tuff in the summer some hogs just freak out and never settle down till they drop from stress . it's normal to loose one occasionally due to this ..  you can hang a water bucket in the trap but they usually knock it over when trying to get out  .   good luck with it .

Cut a barrel of at first ring & bury it to about 4 inches sticking out , this will stop them from turning it over. Fill it when you check traps. Water & shade will help to give you time to get there . HUNT'UM UP !!!

Build a corral trap in the trees n brush, do as stated bout with a barrel n fill it when u ck it daily. The bigger the trap, the less pressure n stress it "should" put on the hogs, hopefully allowin them to burrow up invthe brush n calm down. As with what mr whitten said too, dont set them till u can run them. If u cant get them till fri, set wen or thur nite n ck first thing afyer school fri.

HERE'S A TIP: Put a water pale or cut a 55 plastic barrel long ways to put under the trap its like having a water hole for there feet it cools them down fast .. the corn can be in a pan the same way! worked for me try it .
