EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

I've seen some dogs describe that they only like dead silent dogs and they don't like them to open up at all even if a hog breaks a couple yips is unacceptable. Any insite as to why so strict on the not opening especially after they bay and the hog breaks and they get a yip or two?

I don't mind a yip or two after they break but not the whole chase. I just like to know when I hear a bark it means a bayed hog. But open dogs catch hogs too I just prefer silent ones

I guess it all just comes down to personal preference

I run silent dogs as well but once bayed if they open a little if the hogs break I have no problem with that. Just didn't see that as a issue really. Just noticed some say it they run dead silent dogs and opening a little if they break is unacceptable so was wondering what the reasoning is I guess.

Only problem I see with it is if your bulldog misses he will most likely follow dogs if they are barking. I know mine does and its no fun trying to get through a pine thicket with bulldog caught at 500 yards.

I think it is nothing but a sugar coating for a sorry dog their about to put on the dog trade. Jmo

Well I was legitimately wondering if I was missing something or if there was a specific reason that would cause that to be a undesirable trait and I can understand that being a problem with the cd but my cd will pretty much track to them if they aren't opening anyway so it wouldn't matter either way once he's loose he's gonna go

It dont matter if they open are not . And anybody that says that hasn't hunted where hogs run bad . The determining factor in catching runnin hogs is Bottom = ( endurence til the end ) I've hunted and owned silent ,open , ruff and loose and any real hog hunter will tell you they don't catch them all !  ;)
