Title: Help!
Post by: AnotherRunner on June 07, 2013, 06:20:07 pm
Guys the fleas in my kennel is horrible! When I say horrible I mean when I walk in to feed they cover my legs! I need something to spray in the grass and on the dogs. I need something good I'm sick of watching my dogs get eat up with them, they can't even move around much without constantly scratching. I kill them off the dogs and they are right back the next day. I bought some Diatomacious earth supposedly that works. Its like a whit powder almost like flour. Gonna try it today

you need to spray your kennels with 10% permethrin mixed with  MARTIN'S I.G. REGULATOR  every ten days to break the cycle and get them under control . then you can get you the pills I've heard good things about them but haven't had to try them with using the martins and permethrin  .

Bayer tree and shrub or dominion tree and shrub ingredient your looking for is imidicloprid make sure no fertilizer is in it. It works great and is cheap. Rub a little on their belly and your good to go

I've never had a flea problem but I had a mosquito and no see ums problem. Every 6 weeks I spray all kennels and yard with Cutters Back Yard Bug Control. Just hook it to a water hose and spray everything. It's a good
all around preventative for me. One bottle will last you all summer. Maybe try it along with the stuff Mike and
halfbreed are reccomending.

Halfbreed I just sprayed with the permethrin and IG regulator will see in a few days of it got em all, will respray it next week. Also the lady at feed store told me that I could delute the permethrin down and actually spray it on the dogs but I didn't try it. Gotta wait till Monday to get those comfortis pills the vets around here are closed on Saturdays:-\ will just permethrin work as well?

1oz of permethrin to a gallon of water and spray the dogs kennels and all .  then mix you 1oz of permethrin  plus add the martins to a gallon of water and spray just the kennels and a perimeter around the kennels  [ but not the dogs ] let it dry for a bit and put the dogs back in the kennels  .  if you read the instructions on the bottle of permethrin it gives you the measurements of how to mix for a dog dip .  but I just use my spray bottle and do it all at once  .  the martins and permethrin are photo sensitive and only last about 10 days effectiveness in the sunlight so I usually spray every 10 days at the first and then just as needed  .  but yes use the permethrin on the dogs to kill and repell the fleas from them  . hell I get as much on me as I do the dogs when I work my pens  lol

yeah sounds like you have a real good infestation of them little buggers  .  the pills and all are great  FOR THE DOGS  but they do nothing to kill out an infestation in your yard and kennel or your house ect. ect. that is why I am religious in the warm months with the spraying regiment . at the moment you probably have hundreds of new fleas hatching daily . but the permethrin will kill the adults and the martins will sterilize the newly hatched fleas before they get to the biting and egg laying stage . once you break the hatching cycle you will be able to control them easily enough with a regular spraying .  I mix some permethrin in a small spray bottle and spray my pants legs before I go out walking around in the  summer months to keep the chiggers and ticks off of me  works great as well as for spraying the dogs ears when the flies are bad  . as bad as you seem to have them you could also get you some spectricide with the hose end sprayer [ bottle you hook to your water hose ] and spray you whole yard down as well .

X2 on spraying the yard it'll seem like forever but it will kill em off just stick with it some spectracide or similar hose end sprayer will wipe them out pretty fast to the adults that is still have to break the cycle though they are a pain I was in your shoes last summer

You get your dogs started on the pills and they'll kill every flea on your yard... you won't have to spray anything.

I must say comfortis is amazing! Took a couple weeks and fleas are completely gone. Dogs can actually walk around without scratching and I can walk out there without being covered with em

Last summer I had what sounds like the same exreme outbreak you are dealing with now, dogs were literally covered,i could see the sand moving and if I wore white socks around them they would be black with fleas in a second. I did a tonne of research after every other thing failed(permethrin is a joke compared to the problem I was facing) and the top internet searches led me to this product found at tractor supply, not by the pesticides but actually tucked away around by plumbing supplies etc. I sprayed in the afternoon and the very next morning I didn't have a single flea in the kennels or area. Me and the dogs were finally relieved and to this day I haven't had the problem,it will also get rid of all types of ticks and lots of other pests, just need a pump sprayer and I mixed it fairly stout,. I hope you try it,you will NOT be disappointed!!

I've heard of using cedar limbs and spraying cedar oil but never crepe mertle bushes  lol   the comfortis pills work no doubt about it [ from what I've heard  ]  but when it first came out I did the research and opted out . it say's to be carefull on giving it to brood gyps,  which I don't own a gyp I wouldn't consider breeding at some point in time . they haven't done the studies on studs . just be carefull with the pills on your gyps .

the permethrin kills adult fleas and not the larva or eggs you have to use a growth regulator for controlling fleas or you are waisting your time . eggs hatch every day in a bad infestation unless you add a growth regulator to sterilize the young you ain't doing it right  . these pills and frontline ect. ect. have growth regulating  components in them and that makes them effective  to rid you of the problem and aid in breaking the hatching cycle  .  and I like the permethrin due to it being the safest product out there . as with anything they break down in the sunlight and you have to be aware of how long the residue last in the sun and spray accordingly . if I owned just a few dogs I would use a pill or such but I can just about spray my 3 acres all summer on the price of a pill or squirt tube for 3 dogs   lol

the comfortis supposedly does have a lot of side effects but I gave it to all three of mine and they were fine. It does work great. If you got a lot of dogs the pills would be high
