Title: Re: Next years pack is taking shape Post by: justincorbell on June 13, 2013, 11:02:34 am Man I would love to see some of them long legged devils stretch out.......I know a few places around here that they would SHINE......if you are ever gonna be around the beaumont texas area please pm me in advance if you want to make a hunt.....I can make a few calls and get access to a few AWESOME places that sight hounds would be ideal for...I have some friends that have a ton of land in the labelle and winnie area's, the labelle land is all rice fields/ hay fields and barren fields with mixed woods, we spotlight it every once in a while and there are times where packs of BIG hogs will be in flat dry cut hay fields 400yds from the nearest woods, we usually dump bulldogs to em when we have em with us or just shoot em but some of those long legged jokers would be awesome to watch in action!!!!!...just try to make it in the winter time...the lizards are bad right now!
Title: Re: Next years pack is taking shape Post by: Silverton Boar Dogs on June 13, 2013, 06:42:47 pm Thanks for the invite Justin, it turns out that I have a small piece of land east of Beaumont that my great grand father won in a poke game in the twenty's. Planing on coming down to see it some time this fall, will let you know when that might be.
Stags are great open field dogs but they can also be very effective in rough country as well as brush. Mine are bred to have some nose and they do hunt out pretty good just looking. I have caught a lot of hogs with one cur dog, one Stag, and one Dogo. That makes a pretty effective 3 dog team. Title: Re: Next years pack is taking shape Post by: MrsLouisianaHogDog on June 13, 2013, 07:09:45 pm That's a mighty fine line up! I've got some Stags here that will be workin too when they come of age :D

Title: Re: Next years pack is taking shape Post by: wildbill on June 27, 2013, 10:41:23 pm I don't think those stags could catch a three legged sow, let alone hold it.
Should have spent your money more wisely and bought a pair of cheetahs if you were after speed. Title: Re: Next years pack is taking shape Post by: Silverton Boar Dogs on June 27, 2013, 10:54:06 pm I am currently working with the vets at Texas A&M on a Stag, Cheetah cross. I am sure they will be the new rage and as you know all cheetahs are heavy line bred so they will be the real deal.
Title: Re: Next years pack is taking shape Post by: wildbill on June 27, 2013, 11:00:10 pm which phenotypes of the two will give you the edge on the caprock as well as the high plains?
Title: Re: Next years pack is taking shape Post by: Silverton Boar Dogs on June 27, 2013, 11:05:26 pm I really am hoping they will look just like a Stag, but with the Cheetah tail.
Bill, the male pup is really growing looks like he will get as big as his daddy, I hope. Both are super gamey. Title: Re: Next years pack is taking shape Post by: Peachcreek on June 27, 2013, 11:10:29 pm I would sure like to see if one of them suckers could shut down a runner in a couple of my places.... Hit me up when u head south.
Title: Re: Next years pack is taking shape Post by: wildbill on June 27, 2013, 11:20:36 pm Paul, the pups look good. Glad they were able to find a home that will hunt them.
They will be great hunters. I miss hunting with them while horseback. Pure Octane. I am currently breeding feral/russians to minature potbellie pigs so that we have a chance to bay and catch. ;) Smart hogs seem to learn how to run fast. |
