Here's a pretty good write up. http://www.dusupply.com/garmin-astro-dc50.html (http://www.dusupply.com/garmin-astro-dc50.html) Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: MrsLouisianaHogDog on July 02, 2013, 10:16:36 am Just reading about this from an e-mail I received this morning. Wish they could be picked up on the Astro 220.

Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: justincorbell on July 02, 2013, 11:47:03 am This sounds like an all-around better product than the dc40, I will be adding a couple to my system here before long!

Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: firemedic on July 02, 2013, 01:00:59 pm I read the poop sheet on them and I must say that I'm impressed with Garmin....seems they've listened to what the hound/ big game dog folks have been asking for. You will have, after the free update, access to 21 more satellites which is almost twice as many as before. The Rescue Mode will be a great feature as well seems to me....certainly for all you folks with the endless bottom dogs that get waaaaaay out of pocket. I may have to upgrade to a couple of these before Jan. Oh....they have a much beefier antenna so they say as well......longer and larger in diameter.

Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: Shotgun wg on July 02, 2013, 08:02:25 pm The addition of GLONASS is a big deal. This is the first review I've read that states this. GLONASS In combination with wass will greatly increase GPS accuracy. Now if the antenna is up to snuff for communication with reciever(handheld) they could have something we've all wanted. GPS signal should not be an issue beings now they should track around 29 SAts instead of 9.
Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: DSmith on July 03, 2013, 10:20:18 am I've got two 30's with the extended range antennas I might be willing to part with? Don't have the charging cords for them though.
I updated the collars and antennas recently. Can't remember the colors since I'm at work. Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: hillbilly on July 03, 2013, 01:04:28 pm They sound great other than not working with the 220. Can't see myself going to buy a 320 just for this collar.
Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: Black Smith on July 03, 2013, 07:08:42 pm Yea the DC 50 sounds good but I will stick with my 220 and dc40's till they go out!!
Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: Easttex91 on July 04, 2013, 08:33:00 am From all the complaints I've read about the 40's I'll stick with my 30's
Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: Lacy man on July 04, 2013, 10:38:38 am From all the complaints I've read about the 40's I'll stick with my 30's I ve never had issues with my dc40s Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: Shotgun wg on July 04, 2013, 11:59:07 am It's the latest and greatest. Some will sell their soul to have em. Others will wait till the bugs get worked out. Just like the other collars once the bugs are gone and a little knowledge on what works and what don't they will be fine. I have had little issue with my 40's. I know folks running 30's with limited issues. I suspect in a year the 50's will be just as limited on issues. The addition of the Russian satellites will fix issues people now have with the 40's and 30's of losing GPS in thick cover to a certain degree. Improved antenna will be better than current factory but may or may not improve over aftermarket long range antenna. The jury is still out on how good they will be until the average joe gets some time with em.
Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: Rocking Y on July 05, 2013, 10:22:04 am I like the idea of a bark detector because usually when it says a dog is treed or on point on mine they're laid down cut up

The brag sheet I read said that right now they have access to 28 sats., GLONASS will add 21 more to this.....either way it's going to be a really good feature seems to me. Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: Shotgun wg on July 05, 2013, 03:41:45 pm I sell and install GPS systems for tractors. Here in southeast AR when using WAS signal we get a maximum of 11 SAts at a time. WAS is what I figure they are also using as standard until now due to the fact that it is free and offers sub-meter accuracy. If we take the same GPS system we use on tractors and add GLONASS we can track around 29 or so SATs at nearly anypoint with little issue of signal loss. The more the merrier when it comes to GPS and tracking
Title: Re: Garmin Astro DC50 Post by: Amokabs on July 06, 2013, 07:51:15 am I dont understand garmin. They just came out with the alpha system, you think they'll adapt the dc50 to work with alpha or is the 320 and dc 50 gonna be their premeire gps system? Makes me always want to wait and just use my 220 and dc30's a little longer til they make up there minds what they are going to produce
