Title: Dog with bloody feces Post by: RossHoskins on July 06, 2013, 08:19:47 pm I have two puppies one a pit one a ybmc that stay in the same pen. They both are wormed every couple of weeks and are up to date on all shots. They both are having bloody feces, the blood is kind of like a mucus or membrane kind of stuff not liquid. I was told it could be cocsidiosis ( positive that's not spelled right) what do y'all think? And they act fine and are full of energy

Title: Re: Dog with bloody feces Post by: Reuben on July 06, 2013, 09:05:23 pm if you have wormed with the same wormer for a while on all your dogs then the worms could be getting immune to the wormer and you should switch to another one for a while...
but if the wormer is working then it more than likely is coccidiosis... I recommend gettin em to the vet quickly. Search this forum for options to help em in the meantime, there is alot of info regarding these diseases.... I believe the number one killer is dehydration, best of luck with your pups. It hit my yard once and I lost durn near all of mine.

Title: Re: Dog with bloody feces Post by: jimco on July 07, 2013, 01:36:44 am What are you worming with ? Whip Worms will cause a clear/bloody mucus in stool. Strongid (Pyrantel Pamoate) , Zimecterin (Praziquantel) will not kill Whip worms. Safeguard (Fenbendazole) will get Whip Worms. Whip Worms will Dehydrate a puppy quick due to the diarrhea.
I use liquid safeguard goat wormer (Fenbendezol) . 1/2 cc for 3 days straight for pups starting at 2 weeks. I worm them every 2 weeks until they are weened and then once a month from then on. After they reach 5 lbs. the correct dosage is 1 cc per 5 lbs. for 3 days straight. Symptoms for Coccidia and Whip Worms are similar. Title: Re: Dog with bloody feces Post by: halfbreed on July 07, 2013, 09:18:39 am yes whips will tear a pups stomach up as well this way especially with young pups , I had an outbreak of whips on the yard last year . when i'm raising pups I will give the shots on time [ maybe start early @ 5 weeks ] put the sulmet in their drinking water and worm for everything and make sure you give at least one shot with the corona vaccine in it . the only way to avoid all these problems is to stay ahead of them it is much easier to PREVENT all this stuff that attacks a young dog than it is to treat a dog after it gets sick . I know every time I have been lax on prevention I have paid for it and had it bite me in the ars .
the only other way to do it is to build a [ clean room ] and raise the pups indoors and off the ground and never let anybody see or touch them .
