Title: Pup workin hog need advice!
Post by: SaltyhoggerJr on July 11, 2013, 11:44:21 am
Just got some cool pictures of my bmc in the pen. She's lookin good! Need some input on her and why she won't catch ear. She's gritty but is catchin behind the ears. Is that fixable? She will quit a runner and sit em down. Gets super gritty. Will working her with a bigger hog make her catch ear? Just needing some input.

Happens quite a bit on smaller pigs. When the dog/pup is bigger than the pig they will catch on the back of the neck a lot of times. Wouldn't worry about it. Pig of a more equal size and she will go ear. But don't rush her. Worse thing you can do is wreck her at an early age.

I agree with Kevin 100%

i like my curs to catch from behind, they do most there stopin of big hogs that way in my oppinion if she is up front she is in the wrong spot on a small one no big deal but something with teath no way man she is doing just fine. if you want something to catch it on the ear git you a bulldog. she looks good easy does it slowly move her up on bigger hogs.

Thank you. She will most likely be a stop dog & may help catch.

if you want to keep her around for more than a season or 2 keep her from in front of the hog let her build her on natural style most good yello dogs have a way about doing things working wild cattle and such has been breed into them. she will figure out the business end and how to take care of things.
