My fan quit working, so I got a box fan and taped it on  so it would be cool till I get a new fan on Monday. Then I noticed the compressor was not kicking in. I guess I have a bad run capacitor. The warranty people should be here tomorrow. It sucks to lose your AC on the weekend. I have 2 window units so I will make it.

Our ac went out couple wks ago an thought it was compacitor but turned out the fan motor was shot. 2 wks before that our compressor went out as well. So I understand how ya feel!

box fan not going to be enough air moving through the condenser, guess compressor is ok just out on internal safety. if you felt the compressor guessing it felt like it was on fire. Just  my guess though.

I hope it is just the fan motor, but who knows. A good box fan will pull enough flow through the condensor, I have done it before. Its the wrong time of the year for this.

Spraying water on the condenser is a MUCH better way to cool the unit down. A box fan is a poor choice. Good way to kill a compressor.

It was a bad Capacitor, all should be good by the time I get home from work.

I have changed my capacitor 3 times in 7 years. I have a good men air conditioner which is equivalent to a Ford Pinto..... however all three times still have not  equal to 100 dollars

Run capacitors usually go bad when its really hot (when you need them most). The fact that most are made in china makes them more likely to pop.
