Title: cutvest
Post by: Bo Pugh on July 17, 2013, 09:12:04 pm
im thinking about getting a cutvest, i have had one before and didnt like all them straps it took to long to put on. im not going to use it all the time just when i think it might be required. does anyone make any that have 2 straps and some velcrow across the top, or is thier any made that have the " im not sure what thier called" quick clips like on a fanny pack where i could just put it on and snap them. i had one a long time ago that had 2 straps that was camoflauge on the outside and hunters orange on the inside i thought it had the quick connects but my buddy said it didnt, can anyone point me in the right direction to what i might be looking for thanks

Southern style vest have 2 buckle straps on top with an open top to let some heat out. Swamp dawg has 3 buckle straps and Velcro on the top. These are the ones I have seen personally.

Call wild boar USA I'm sure they'd get ya one with just a couple of straps.. I had a custom collars vest that has only 2 straps with Velcro I think it was $30-$35 for it but now I use wbusa

Well If I was you I'd stay away from them vest that go all the way up and have Velcro they don't let the body heat out and the dogs get hot with them I'd use a good light weight quality vest if the dogs worth saving then vest him up with something worth buying I would recommend a vest from hardcorehogdogs.com with a extra layer of Kevlar you won't be disappointed ;)

id like to get one like i use to have but i dont remember the website, i think it was razorback something. it was reversable and was quick to get on and off a dog. im not going to use it much just when i know for sure its a big hog. i havent been using a vest for the last several years but its getting hard to find a bulldog now so i figured id try to keep the one i got if i could. i have seen people with the vest with the 4 and 5 straps with the connections like a dog collar and i think they would take to long to get on. and no one i hunt with puts a vest on their bulldogs so i didnt want them standing there waiting on me to get all my straps hooked up.

I'm not sure about other people but I vest up my bulldogs here at the house and drive 45 minutes to hunt and hunt about 5-6 hrs maybe getting 1-6 hogs before the vest comes off I couldn't imagine trying to vest some of my bulldogs while they r bayed especially if the CDs can hear em. If I was you  I wouldn't worry if ur buds vest there dogs r not if urs Is worth saving then save him.

during the warmer months i usually wait until i got a bay going on until i throw the vest on my bulldog. But like you said id rather spend a whole 30 seconds throwing a vest to add the extra protection.

All we run is hardcorehogdogs vest even my ruff strike dogs wear em no problems they r super light weight. We have used 5 different types of vest from different companies and hardcore has made me a believer for sure I order them with an extra layer of Kevlar and never have had a problem some of them vest have been on hundreds of hogs with no problems

I put em on before we load em in the trailer. My bulldog is usually goin nuts when he hears a bay. Don't matter if its hot or not. Puttin it on in the woods is nearly impossible if he can hear em, he don't give a rats a#$ if he has got it on all he knows is dogs are barkin and he wants to go see exactly what it is, vest or no vest. We always take a cooler in the back of the ranger and keep em kool, our huntin hasn't slowed any because of the heat. And as long as everybody takes a couple exra steps before goin out yalls shouldn't slow either. Jmo

I have a lightweight bay vest for my bmc she doesn't wear it much only whenever I just get that odd feeling that she needs it (I'm usually right) but I got it from hardcore hog dogs, I love it.

I feel u swamp hunter we take every step nececary to protect our CDs , a good one is hard to replace and a great on is even harder. Our dogs are used to wearing vest for several hours and have no problems working with them on but it takes time for a dog to get used to em. I can say that they spend much less energy and can go way more with a good quality light weight vest and that's why we love our hardcorehogdog vest

the only thing im having concerns with is the heat, just the other day my buddy had a hog bayed and as soon as he turned the bulldog loose hog broke said it was 2 miles before he caught back up and caught the hog when it stopped again took him about a hour to get in there to them said bulldog was cut up and over heated but if hed had a vest on he wouldnt be cut but hed been alot hotter and probably wouldnt been able to make that run. i guess its a 50/50 with or without a vest. but i think im gonna order me a vest when i find one i like

Bo, I run shock collars on my bulldogs for that very reason. If the hog breaks, I shock them off if it's not caught within a 100 yards or so. It doesn't take too many times of this and they know to quit and come back on their on.
