With deer season looming near, and all the stores putting their gear out, I've got a bad itch for a new bow. I shoot a 10yr old Bear that I bought used off eBay 5 yrs ago. The Bear rep I talked to said it was their top of the line when it came out, but I know a lot has changed in 10 yrs. I've never even shot a newer bow just for the fear that I would like it and want one. I have 100% confidence out to 40yds with mine even though I practice farther than that,  but for some reason I just feel its time for a new one.

Would like to hear opinions from everyone else out there of what they like or don't like. I'm looking to the low to mid price range on a new bow. I'm not going to drop a grand on a new bow, no way no how. And I figure any new bow is probably light years ahead of what I got now. One that has really caught my eye is the Mission Ballistic. Anyone have one of these. Lets hear y'all's opinions!! 

And before everyone starts with the I hate deer season it just messes up hog hunting comments, I am right there with y'all. But I do still enjoy deer hunting and figure if you can't beat them join them, lol!!

I've got a Parker real nice for a cheaper bow

The biggest thing that is hardest for me to buy a brand new bow is the fact that they lose value so fast. I have baught a brand new bow before,  had $700 wrapped up in it not counting labor charges by the bow shop I had working on it all the time. One year after buying my bow, the bow shop that sold it to me told me it was worth about half. Every year they come out with better and better, im going to buy a bow this year BUT im buying last years model, so its used. my theory is if it could kill a deer last year than it can this year. the thing is though im buying it from a local bow shop that they sale them on consignment,  but they re build them and go over them and back them up so its not like buying used off eBay or craigslist b/c there are or can be issues in buying used bows like a cracked limb or soothing you realty cant tell untilled you get home and shoot it. long story short my opioin is buy a one year old bow so your not paying $1000 and your closer in time and age with the advancements but buy from a bow/ consignment shop that says if it as issues you can come back and they will work with you.

Cant go wrong with a bear if u aint got a mathews dealer in the area. Jk. A bear is a goid bow, same with mathews, but like buford said, they loose value faster than driving a new tck off the lot. When i bought my dxt in 08, i had $1000 in it before shafts and tips. I put 10 deer on the ground with mine in 1 season in kansas and 5-6 in tx along with a couple hogs. My dxt is a 60-70# and i got it set to 63-64# which has pleanty of pass through for deer or hogs. If i was lookin at buying a new bow it would b a mathews first, then a bear, but in 09, when the truth 2 came out, i woulda went with it if i needed a new bow. It shot smoother with less twang from the string n the kick back was less than my dxt too. Remember, u get what u pay for. U buy cheap, u get cheap built, which can mean the difference between a clean kill and a suffering non recovered animal and possible bodily damage to the shooter. But higher price dont always mean quality craftsmanship either, but for the most part, ur higher end bows will yield a better long lasting piece of field equipment.

Go to a couple bow shops and shoot as many different bows in your price range as you can.  All bows shoot a lil different for everyone.   Find one that "feels" the best and groups the best for you.

And, if it were me, stay away from the double cam bows.  The single cams have came along way in the speed department.  The double cams have as well, but I will give up a few FPS for the smoothness and quietness of a single cam.  Also, no where near the worries with tuning, with out a press

DWest is right, get one that feels good in your hands. Don't make the mistake I did and get rid of your old good bow and buy the latest and greatest from a top company just because of hype. I struggled with that thing for 2 years before dumping it. Finally went shopping and tried them all. Ended up with what's perfect for me and not with what everyone else suggested. Company's change designs like underwear. Get one that works for you and stick with it.

I went and shot some bows at lunch today since I only work a mile from Bass Pro.  I shot a PSe brute and a Bear mauler. I liked the PSE better of the two. Both were definitely much smoother and quieter than the bow I have now, I'm just not sure they are $500 worth of better.  Gonna try to hit another nearby archery shop sometime this week and shoot some more.  But unless something just blows me away, I have a feeling I'll keep on keeping on with the bow I've already got.  After all its killed every deer ive ever shot at......except that one doe that managed to hang around long enough for me to miss her 3 times. Just wasnt her day to die I guess lol.

I have a pse brute x an I love it nothin but good things 2 say about it even tho I haven't even drew it back on a critter yet bought it last year an didn't get 2 hunt much do 2 work but I did shoot it a bunch in the yard very smooth IMO

I haven't shot the bass pro brand bows.  But they are made by diamond and look and feel good.  I think u can pick them up for $500-$600 rigged out, not a bad price

I've had a Mathews monster, a bear, a diamond, and now I hav a PSE brute and I love it. Not outrageously priced and is the best bow I've shot

Mathews is far and away the best bow on the market i have shot all of them. the bears are my second favorite for mid line bows. The new G5 bows called primes are bad to the bone as well.

I have a bow tech destroyer and have owned it 2 years now and have killed numerous critters (deer,hogs,coons, squirrels) and love it. If it continues to shoot flawlessly I ll keep it for a Long duration. My problem with bows is it cost me a fortune to be able to accurately shoot maybe 50 yards at best when you can by a badasssss rifle with scoop and be accurate up to 300 yards?!?!? But with that being said I still bow hunt lol

Look on craigslist real good deals this time of year you can pick you up nice late model bow rigged out for a good price but from what I am hearing that new prime is the best bow for the buck I am a Mathews man myself and they do hold there value prolly the best

Another bowtech fan here........ I have owned quite a few different brands/models and the bowtech assassin has performed time and time again for me!

I'm with ya on that but after a while shooting a deer with a rifle just gets old to me..........If I can sit behind a stack of hay bails with the radio in my truck going drinkin a cold beer and smoking a cigarrette and shoot a deer there really ain't much "hunting" involved.....and yes lol I have done just that.......meat is meat but if you wanna really hunt em then a bow is the way to go!

Ive got a diamond bow that ive had for a few years.  They are made by bowtech and are nearly identical (my dad has the same model bowtech and the only difference is the grip on his is wood).  However my dad gave in and bough a new hoyt (carbon element i think) last year and i gotta tell ya its the SMOOTHEST shooting bow ive ever shot.  If i hit the lotto im buyin one!

rdjustham you ain't lying about that Hoyt carbon element. I ain't no fan boy or hater, but I tried out a lot of bows and that one shined above the rest. I robin hooded a couple at 30 yds. Had to sell some junk and take out a loan but it went home with me. I was also impressed when shooting the bow tech invasion, that was sweet shooting rig.
