If got an old pair of rubber snake boots and im tired of them chewing up my feet.  This time of year in South Florida the snake are out in force, and there is water EVERYWHERE.  Im looking for a new pair of waterproof snake boots and after reading all the reviews on the different ones on line im lost.  I like the looks of the danner pronghorns and jackals i saw on line, but they are pricey.  Ive looked at both the cabelas ones on line and the bass pro ones in the store and gotta say im not overly excited about the bass pro brand.  I tried on the ones at bass pro and i need to stay away from sip up only because i had to go up almost two and a half sizes to get my calfs to fit, and that was with wearing shorts.

So all that being said what do you guys wear, and some pros and cons.  And waterproof is a must in the swamps of south florida, so chaps and gaiters are out, it couldnt be that easy/cheap could it..  rolleyes

Glad you posted this cuz I'm wondering the same. I been looking at the Game Winner wrangler waterproof snake boots they are $100 and the reviews I read are really good on them. I have those exact pair of boots and they started leaking within a couple months.  Pretty comfortable and light tho. 

  did they wear out at the bend in your foot sdogs  .  that where my high dollar lacrosses wore out in a matter of weeks . if you get the cordura boots you have to keep spraying them with the water proofing or they leak and I think that spray rots the material lol .

Look at Rocky boots.com. I've had mine for two years and no leak that I know of. I don't live in swamp. These lace in the front and zip on the side. So you can adjust them to the size of your calf. Plus you can get them tight enough to keep stuff from going down in them. I love mine I can run hogs all night. They are comfortable. They are the pro light mobu side zipper. There are about 10 different ones to chose from.

For the money I get the red head lace-ups.  They hold up good and come in wide and u can get them over my calf.  Wait till they have a sale and you can get them for 89-99.

I bought a pair of justin snake boots from academy about a year ago. They have held up really well and are water proof.

X2....had mine over a year, best ones I have had, I can walk a pair of rocky apart in 6 mo. these justins are still like new and very comfotable.

I have had two different styles of the Game Winner snake boots... Both are junk. Bought the ones with zippers first and the zippers broke in a couple hunts and they leak. Bought the wranglers and they leaked on the third trip out. They are light and comfortable but cheap made leaking boot

I dont like rocky boots.  I bought a pair of heavy insulated boots for bow hunting in NY and after two trips (20 days of use total) they fell apart so they lost my buisness, really expected more out of a 200 dolalr pair of boots.  Luckily Bass pro refunded me on them.  I had an old pair of non insulated red head 50 boots that lasted me almost 5 years of hunting in GA and i beat the snot out of them.  The red head brand lace up boots are on sale right now but wouldnt you know it they dont have my size  :-[

Yeah if I remember correctly that's where it was leaking.  Hard to tell because they were still new but it was somewhere along the seams on the sole.

I have a pair of Chippewa pull ons they are comfortable and im on my second season with them and no leaks so far. Im in central Florida so leaks were my concern as well. They will also repair them for you if you have any problem.

i should also add im going to use these boots for everything from runnin dogs to using a climber stand, so western style is kinda out for me.

Look up dans hunting gear on the Internet. They have some boots on there they call frog legs (hip waiters). They have a pair that a snake proof. I wouldnt trade mine for anything else.

I left my justins at the house when i went out of town to hunt. I bought a pair of Chippewas while i was out west. They were a little tough to break in but now are the most comfortable boot i own. I like them alot

I like the Dan boots. I have a pair of lacrosse alpha sports I have walked rice in for 3 years. Dans offers the same boots with the thigh high snake chaps attached. This is the boot I intend to buy as soon as I can.

I have some Muck brand hip boots that I really like. They cost a little more but they are comfortable and last forever

I've had my chippewas for maybe four to five years now . I wore out the original sole and took them to the redwing store and had them put on the same soles that I use on my redwing work boots. I believe this cost me somethin like $40.00 .. But can't really remember . Im not sure how they'd act in a swamp tho if your standing in water for a long time. I try and get across water as quick as I can and my feet always end up dry with these boots.
If your calfs are too large which I herd is a common complaint on these boots . I've herd where people have takin them to a shoe smith and they split the back then sew it up wider.

The style number on my boots is 23913 .. On their website it says they aren't waterproof , I'm not sure if they changed them up in the time that I've bought mine.

Ohh by the way the break in proces was a pain but once broken in they worked great for me. At that time I didn't know about stuff you can put on leather to help break in boots . So that might cut down break in time.

Ive not tried the Chippewa or Justins yet, but I can tell you, Rocky, redheads are pure junk! The Rocky are light and comfortable but wont last a month if they get wet. I'm on my second pair of danner pronghorns, toughest boots ive owned. I put tons of miles on a pair of boots in some rough country. The only problem I have with them is after about a year the gortex lining wears and they start to leak. But other than that they're hard to beat and well worth the money.

Yea running through the piney woods and a snake biting you is not worth the risk when you can at least protect your legs with some boots. I don't own any now but fully intend on buying some. As you stated if nothing else for peace of mind

I don't care what kind of snake it is I don't wanna get bit by it. Poisonous or not lol! I'd rather go face to face with a 400 lb boar hog with 6in blades ;D;D (slight exaggeration)

I think you said your in south Fl. So you may be familiar with Ocala. There is a store called Russells Western wear. Thats where I got mine. But I have seen them at other Western boot stores.

Been through ocala a time or two.  Bout three ish hours from me, spend more in gas than to buy the boots..  lol

These are the boots we wear in south Louisiana. We use them for hunting, walking rice, walking crawfish ponds, etc. The ankle fit design lets you wear them all day without slipping on the heel causing blisters.
They are non insulated which is what you want in south Louisiana or south Florida. This boot has been around
since the 60's.  I usually get 2 yrs. out of them walking and working crawfish ponds and levees. If I cleaned
them after use they probably would last longer. And yes many of cotton mouths have hit these boots through the years without penetrating the rubber. The new Lacrosse boots look better but these are the ones for working and all day walking.

I like the Danner boot. No experience with either. Just going by the pics

yeah i like the looks of the danner too, and i know our k9 guys wear danners and like them, but if the quality and durability is similiar i like the price tag on the lacrosse better

The best I have found for the money are made by Itasca. They're the tallest I've seen. I've been wearing a pair for 5 years and can't wear em out. The most comfortable I've ever worn and cost less than other brands.

I like CHAPS!!!! I wear a lacrosse rubber boots, with chaps over top, Saves from briars and snakes. Al little hot, yeah,.... snake bite? nah

Get u a pair of the alpha sports and u will throw rocks at the old green boot. Sole is much better even when on a shovel. I have wore many a pair of the old green boots knee and thigh both. I promise u won't be disappointed

I agree...Step over the snake and move one. But I have also seen pictures of those Ozzies hunting in Nut Hugger rugby shorts and tennis shoes! I am not down with that! ;D

I've had my chippawaws for a good while and I love them especially when I have to get in a lil water as long as it don't go over the top of the boot they stay dry. Only thing I dislike about them is if u have to take a dump it can Be a pain  those that wear them know exactly what I mean lol

Guys i avoid snakes like the plague, however bowhunting in the SOuth Florida swamps brings out moccasins like crazy.  No warming and been chased by more than one.  Hiking 3 to 4 miles from the truck to hunt, in the swmp means aint no ambulance gettin to ya, and you can describe a place to someone but that dont mean they know where you are.  Its all for peace of mind.

Ive had 4 pairs or rocky snake boots and they all fell apart within few months... Junky made boots

Yeah I don't know what the big deal is! Snake boots cost the same as regular boots. You'd have to be a dumbass to walk around in areas with a high poisonous snake population in regular boots when you could have snake boots. Live to hunt another day. Just my two cents!

I've had most all brands, and I like the Danners best of all.  My favorite boots which I still have two pair were called the "Danner Sharptail Covey Snake Boots" but I understand they have been discontinued.  I would google that name and see if I could find someone with some stock still for sale.  They are pricey, but in my opinion you get what you pay for.
