Post by: charles on October 15, 2013, 03:28:56 pm Might have been a black jaguar.....black panther's don't exist I thought they was the same thing, just depends on what part of the country and world a person is from. A mnt lion and cougar are the same, but called different names. Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Like lion and tiger, both cats, but once you know the difference it'd be hard to confuse the two. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_panther Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Post by: T-Bob Parker on October 15, 2013, 09:44:41 pm Jaguar- Panthera Onca
Cougar-Puma Concolor Different animals, jaguars can be black, cougars can not. Panther is a common name for cougars, jaguars, leopards, other big cats. So technically, there can be black panthers, but cougars can not be black according to current scientific knowledge. Not even in captivity, through selective breeding has there ever been a black cougar ( Puma Concolor) I'm no biologist, but I do play one on ethd. Lol Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Post by: wine6978 on October 16, 2013, 06:38:57 am If so many people have seen one and so many people have heard them then how come no one has one hanging on a wall? Or for that matter no pictures of large black cats in the United States in the wild???????
Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Post by: charles on October 16, 2013, 10:57:58 am If so many people have seen one and so many people have heard them then how come no one has one hanging on a wall? Or for that matter no pictures of large black cats in the United States in the wild??????? How many times have seen an animal and said "dang i wish i had my rifle/pistol or bow"? In east tx, they r so scarce, most folks dont get up n say "hey, im gonna sit on the stand n get me panther". The time i saw the cat on my property, i drew down with a 10ga and aimed what i thought was foot or so behind the only thing i could see, the eyes n dropped the hammer. I heard it scream, hit the ground n brush braking as it headed east. Once the smoke cleared, i walked to the tree i thought it was in (40yds or so) and didnt find hide, hair or blood and search nearby trees and the ground. Just bc nobody has 1 on the wall or floor mnted, or pics, dont mean they dont exist hear in the states. There r pics of bigfoot, so going with your conclusion, bigfoot is real bc there r fuzzy pics and vids of it. Not tryin to bust ur wevos, just making an observation and posting run in with a black cat. Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Post by: wine6978 on October 16, 2013, 11:07:27 am So many stories just like yours. But in the hundreds of years people have lived here there hasn't been any PROOF of their existence here in the states. I seen tons of pictures of black cats next to feeder with 5 ft tall cinder blocks right behind em. Everyone wants to believe they have seen one, heard one, or had some kind of contact with one. That's great!!! A lot of people live for myths. That's all black cats here are. Think of how many cats hunters there are in the woods every year, how many deer hunters, how many folks running trashy hog dogs. All those people and no one can come up with proof. I'm talking 100% solid, make me put my foot in my mouth proof.
Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Post by: charles on October 16, 2013, 12:10:39 pm you have a very valid point with your sec post, but just cause some1 aint caught it on film/pic or killed it, we all must be liars then.
but in east tx, aint to many cat hunters, but I take a camera to the woods 99.9999% of the time now, plus have my phone too for just in case moments for skeptics such as yourself. at night its hard to see and with a dim headlight, its not much better than using the naked eye, but when my kids were just able to walk, they were walking to my dads house, less than 100yds away even at night, so the sec time I heard it, I took off with the scatter gun. I wasn't gonna take a chance at it any kind of animal getting to my kids. ove the yrs, my dad has heard the screams, usually in the early fall. unless there are some kids getting their mojo on on our property, and their yellow eyes shine at night, and knowing what a captive panther and a mnt lion sound like, im sticking to what I saw and have heard. I aint nvr seen a mnt lion in the ne tx area, nvr even hear the scream of 1, but saw 1 on a trail cam. I don't believe a panther in east tx is a myth, but I do not believe in the boogy man, saquatch/bigfoot, unicorns, Pegasus, pheinox, and other mythical creatures, but black cats, bigger than a house cat, yea. Title: Re: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Post by: AnotherRunner on October 16, 2013, 12:38:11 pm Well said Charles. And I guess the screams we've heard at 2 at night in the middle of the woods was little girls running around screaming lol a month or so ago my buddy came across a cat track as big as his hand. Right behind the house

Right behind the house Nobody worth a crap denies there are cougars in existence. It's the black part that is being debated. I don't know exactly what part of east Texas y'all are in, but I saw a plain ol yella cougar with my own peepers several times crossing the highway around groveton when I used to hunt there and right here in lil ol manvel tx one of the guys I hunt for has tracks in his pasture and pics on his game ca m Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Post by: wine6978 on October 16, 2013, 01:41:43 pm See a panther/cougar I'm all about. People tell me they seen em down here in matagorda county. I say why not?? They got everything they need. Now a black jaguar, since there is as much a black panther as there is a pink one, ain't here. That's just it. They do not exist in our part of the world in the wild. Dark colored panthers sure. Not black jaguars.
Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Post by: wine6978 on October 16, 2013, 01:43:36 pm I may have to put my foot in my mouth. I just seen a juvenile "black panther" cross the street. It was about 1 ft tall and had a long tail. Ima turn around and try to get a picture of it for all the believers out there!!!! Hahaha
Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Post by: charles on October 16, 2013, 02:38:01 pm terry, not talkin bout cougars/mnt lions, they are brown/tan and they may be in the same definition class as jags, but im referring to a black or really dark grey panther. iv seen on trail cam a cougar.
if I didn't see a black/dark gray panther, then what type colored animal blends in with the opposite of white "black" that I shot at that night? I could see a slim slightly quartering towards me really dark colored animal, that was the size of a med build german shepard about 8' in a tree, so it was a shepard, so don't say it ;D ? I know what I saw (more what I couldn't see bc of the color) and heard that night. if there is a next time and I have a camera ill try to get a pic, even if it means getting mauled by it just so I can say "SEE I TOLD YOU" I may have to put my foot in my mouth. I just seen a juvenile "black panther" cross the street. It was about 1 ft tall and had a long tail. Ima turn around and try to get a picture of it for all the believers out there!!!! Hahaha did the little hoodlum fall out of its stroller n momma was in to much of a hurry, getting to walmart to max her star card out? ;D Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Post by: ChaseG on October 16, 2013, 03:42:22 pm They have been seen multiple times here in the northern part of hunt county several of my good friends have seen them. I have seen a big yellow cat my self balin hay one day and it had a little one following behind it on the way to the trees.
Title: Re: Black Panther sighting in houston.......... Post by: jwdeltx on October 16, 2013, 08:37:00 pm We found a calf hanging about eight foot up a tree while hunting cattle along the colorado river back in the early eightys. I have seen glempses of them and tracks along the river several times sence then. I live right down on the river and my dogs sometimes go crazy in the early dawn , could be hogs or a BIG CAT !!!! HUN'T UM UP !!!!
