I have been breeding boxer for about 6 years now, and i never put boxer and hog hunting as two in one.  I never had hog dogs until a couple of months ago, and when one of my training pigs got out of the pen i let my 5 year old female boxer out.  her and my 14 week old 1/2 plott 1/2 bmc caught that pig.  She was 100% and never looked back.  now i have trouble with her trying to dig out to get to the pigs.  i can't take her hunting becuase she is worth to much to me for my breeding, but i can see where boxers could be amazing hog dogs.  i actually use her to trian pups now, of course on small pigs that she can't get hurt by.  The crazy thing is she had never been around a pig before that day.

I know many people that use them in pure form and as cross in Australia. This is the only thing that Brian Drapper owner of Scrubdog plates uses. His dogs are 6 to 8 years old and all going strong. Heres some video of someones Boxers in Texas or Mexico.

I have 8.5 y/o boxer i put in a pen for the 1st time just to see and he hit that thing like a ton of bricks! Hit it so hard tha he knoked the pig and the other catch dog over and rolled them both.  Put him on another one by him self and WOW!  My Boxer is huge at 92# and solid as a rock.  He is from German blood line so he has a head like a AB.  My other body has a typical boxer that is just a beast and will catch anything that moves horses, cows and will go at any hog that it see with reckless abandon.  I think he wants to sell or give him away too. if you want him come check him out in Alvin outside of Houston this dogg is a beast for sure.

Well if anyone wants to know about boxers and using them for hunting hogs then you can ask me. I have beeh hunting with dogs for 4 years now and I have a 4 year old male brindle boxer who weighs around 85 pounds and he has caught over 800 hogs in the last 2 years. He is a fine catch dog and he has been catching hogs since he was 6 months old. He is purebred and AKC registered. The biggest hog that he ever caught was 379 lbs. He caught that boar by himself not to mention. The worst cut he has ever had was a 1 inch cut on his chest. He is a great family dog and house broke. I've never owned a better dog in my life. I also have a 2 year old male black boxer. He is also AKC registered and catches hogs any size and any time. He just turned 2 but he has been on about 50 hogs already including a 288 pound russian that cut him up good. He is a great dog and he does everything I ask. He is very energetic and doesn't get tired. He loves tracking hogs too. Both of these boxers do the job and always bring the hogs down. I never have to worry whether they are going to lose the hog or not. Now, I have a ten month old dogo female that hunts with them and she has been catching since she was 3 months old. I also have a 4 month old dogo male and he is catching too. Personally, boxers and dogos are my favorite breeds. I've owned curs, catahoulas, border collies, heelers, anatolian shepherds, pit bulls, poodles, great pyranese, german shepherd, and a jack russel, but my boxers and dogos are my favorite. They have good atttitudes, are very very gritty, have lots of game, very protective, well mannered, can take care of themselves when it comes to other dogs, and are very loyal. I know people don't hunt with boxers but I do, and let me tell you. If you get the right one they can sure be a great hunting dog. My dogs also hunt coons, bobcat, coyotes(every now and again after I shoot them), fox, and ringtails when I take them varmint hunting. I know first hand that boxers can be very good hunting dogs. They are the best I've ever had.

Question to any body who hunts hogs with boxers,  recently I had my 2 "house pet" boxers with me when i went to a friends house. He had recently caught a pig and it was in a pen out back. Of course i did not know this and as soon as i let them out of the truck they bolted around the house and went crazy on the pen. After about 5 minutes of trying to bite through the wire pen my oldest dog began to bay at it in the corner while my youngest dog began trying to climb the pen to get inside. Needless to say i was pretty proud of my dogs even though i have never thought of them more than just family companions and good watch dogs.  My friend is bugging me about buying some vests and taking them with us when he goes to set traps and check trail cams. Im a little hesitant about this. I used to run coon dogs a lot and i know that hunting dogs are going to sustain cuts and injuries at some point in time (especially hog dogs). What i am really worried about is how the boxers fighting style is going to match up with a loose wild hog.  My dogs (and most all boxers) use there feet alot when they fight to gain an advantage angle to the neck. Im afraid that a hog will be able to whip around and get them good where the vest doesnt protect (paticularly their throat). Dont get me wrong my dogs can hold their own but i dont know if they are quite ready for a true hog fight. Do your boxers get injured a lot more than  other types of hog dogs?

It doesn't matter how your dog "fights". ANY dog can get killed by a hog at any time. If you are worried about whether or not your dog can get killed or cut by a hog the answer is Yes...

Come on people, not disagreeing for the sake of it. The boxer was the German Bullenbeiser. That meant bull biter as in bull baiting. Thats a different sport than hunting hogs.

They always been good dogs, some people like them and the way they catch and hunt, you could do a lot worse for sure.  How old were these 2 dogs you just introduced to hogs??

Actually the boxer was around during the era of the bullenbiesser, but the boxers then were all white. they had some health issues that breeders attempted to breed out of them by breeding into the stock with the always brindle bullenbiesser. The bullenbiesser was also bred into great danes, the heredity of wich can be seen in both with there broad chest muzzle and fawn and brindle coats, passed down form the bullenbiesser. 99% of boxers and German mastiffs (what i prefer to call my great dane) instinctively hunt track and catch pigs. That doesnt mean all of them will or wouldn't do better with training, however the danes and boxers tendency to use there paws to tip and hold down prey is a deliberately bred instinct to pin a wild pig while maintaining a proper hold with there mouth.
another tidbit of information : the bullenbiesser breed was divided into two major bred groups known as bullenbiesser and barenbiesser. bull biter and bear biter, but this simply refer to the blood sports these medium mastiffs were used for, however they were primarily used as hunting dogs for boar wild bull and bear. so... they were used for exactly the same thing, and besides there coloration are remarked to be almost exactly like the dogo argintino.

I have 2 half blue tick half boxers, Yes they were a mistake and decided to show em a hog. They loved it. The blu tic mom was silent and didnt bark till she treed. The dad is a big brindle boxer who runs a 30 acre property and is killing coon, cats, or whatever. The pups are deep going but have a hot nose and wont run cold tracks. Gritty too a great cross. The other day we had one of our trainer pigs escape and the hog is gamey. That boxer went and caught that pig and had never done it before. He locked and released and a few times telling him to release. That was neat. I dont know if pure boxers are perfect but ours is stocky and tall and has no fear of game.
