As for the dogs, all that I have hunted or seen hunt are almost identical. They aren't for everyone, but if they'll take to you and hunt you will indeed own a hog dog. Nothin bad to say about him, the dogs, or the 2 books he wrote which by the way are pretty good readin for anyone that has the time.

I have four full blooded perry dogs and two half perry half mt.cur. There are good ones and bad ones in all bloodlines, I have hunted with some more and all where "hog dogs", but like what was said they are not for everyone. Loose baying, medium range, roll out kinda dogs. My male dog will bite you if he don't know you. Most I have seen are one owner dogs. As for mr.perry he is a true dogman!!!!

I have had a few. Just like any other dog , some are good some are bad. I have one male. Don't get caught up by just a name. Go hunt with him. Make your own mind up.

Read this threAd there are some excerpts from the book. Most of our dogs go back to what the old timers say was the best black Perry bitch ever. She was named Dixie. They bred her to a Woodruff ranch male dog, from that CB was made and he was bred to a bitch out of New waverly. This is where Erik's dogs started and mine have been bred from his. Ours really aren't true perry dogs but they have some of the right kind of old blood in them. Good luck with your search.

Me Perry is an old school guy, just sit and talk with him for a while if you get the chance. You won't regret the story's he'll weave for you. Good person as well. I need to give him a call now that I think about it and check in on him

I have read some on how he/they bred their dogs...so it is understandable that they will have a good percentage of culls...but his standards as to what a good dog is is set pretty high from what a few have told me...

I know Mr. Perry has pretty high standards from what I've heard and in speaking with him. I was wanting some opinions from individuals who own and hunt them. I have a pair of young dogs off his yard and buddy they have it for sure, they are a smart dog for sure. We were hunting around cattle and I told them one time to leave the cattle and that's all it took them didn't mess with them another time. They are young and learning but I am quit happy with these pups. As for Mr. Perry, I definitely like the guy, he is the kind of fella I grew up hunting around and we hit it off pretty quick. I was looking for self experience with the line, I do appreciate the responses guys thanks.
Texashog26 I'll text you soon as I'm able to get your impression of them.. thanks again

At a year old, the dog is still a pup. I know a fella that has good dogs and waits till their 2 y/o to do anything with them.

Lloyd Perry doesnt even have a cell phone and still uses an answering machine. Website? Big no to that one.

Call the man and go hunt with him. Bring cash if you are looking to buy.
Make your own mind up and throw what you read on the www out the window. No matter where the dogs come from.

I've owed serval dog that came from him and hunted alot of dogs from him.  I've even owed his rat dog. IMO none were worth the money that I paid. Only one out of all them dogs was worth talking about and it wasn't the rat dog.  His dog will burn up the country at his home place. But struggle away from there.  Great guy any dog man. He holds a bond with his dogs that the dogs have a tuff time letting go. Anyone that has owed a dog that he had for any time knows what I'm talking about.

X2! My two main dogs are actually out of Hershel's old line of dogs. They will hunt for anybody, but I just got a young dog out of Ike and rat , had him for about a month now and he still acting funny. Like before they are not for everyone, but if you get a good one you got something!

Mine pups are 7 to 8 months and they are for sure one owner dogs. They are a ball of energy and some go getters. Everyone has their own view on paying the money it takes to get that line but once you got it and you like it that you have something to build on. I do value all opinions and each to their own, my reasoning for the original purchase was to have the blood of years of breeding and proven success. If the man (Mr. Perry) didn't have something of value then nobody would be talking about them. I like a smart dog, I'm not into a dog that just runs out to get out but from what I've seen so far is they are VERY in tuned to the owners wishes and want to make me happy. So far I'm happy with what I got and I can only see them getting better as they age.
