Print Page - 11/10/13. Biggest hog I've caught. ( pic heavy)

Well I haven't been hunting since my daughter was born but was able to slip out Sunday morning. Dale and Matt had hit this place Saturday and they took buzz for me to keep him in shape. They ended up catching a nice little boar. They were gonna try it again Sunday and I brought buzz and chomper. Dale had his two Catchdogs and he brought his two pups out of buzz and Jordan's big momma gyp that we lost a couple months ago to a big hog, that will be 6 months the 20th. Also had Jordan's brindle gyp and Matt's dog... Anyway. The best part is this is across the street from dales house. 5 minutes from my house. We started walking the dogs in there they were working descent but nothing. We were going to call it a day and head out when Jordan's gyp bayed up 330. Buzz was at 250 and shot to her. All the dogs around us including the two nearly 6 month old pups ran in there and we're bayed up. We got in there and realized it was a group. At least 25 hogs. Decided to cut all three Catchdogs at once and hope they end up on different hogs. Normally they hear the first squeal and we have two pits caught on a 30 lb shoat. Not this time. We were no more than 30 yards out but the briars were super super thick and hard to maneuver in. We couldn't get to them because so many hogs were running by us and charging us. I was in a tree about 10" diameter for about 5 minutes. Every time I jumped down another hog would run out and I'd have to shimmy back up the tree. We finally got in there and I grabbed a leg. I couldn't even wrap my hand around her leg had to use two hands. Dale grabbed the tail and was standing behind me. I turned to see what he was doing and he had ahold of her but her tail was a good two foot long. We wrestled her down and were trying to hobble her. We ended up having to tie two hobbles together to make it long enough to reach the other leg. We caught a sow a while back that weighed 275 and a Barr hog that was bigger than her and I know for sure this girl was taller longer and fatter then both of those hogs. We couldn't get her out of there because we didn't have a wheeler with us but sure wish we could have weighed her. The pictures don't do her justice. Dogs rolled out and bayed up a couple times but never shut anything down. I think they were barking and killing piglets.

Dale and his pup out of buzz and big momma. Big momma had 10 male pups out of this cross and we kept eight of the ten. These pups surprised me how well they worked to be so young. They were singing in this girls ear let me tell ya. Can't wait to get them all going.
