Title: what would you do?
Post by: Jmesonp1 on November 26, 2013, 09:54:13 am
We have a neighbor down the road that is a pain in the ass. They let there dog run free even when she was in heat. Well apparently she came into our yard and got bred by one of my bulldogs. Now he is trying to sell the pups as hog dogs in my hunting area. I didnt authorize the breeding nor do i want to compete against my own dogs. Do I confront him about it or hope the pups have a tragic accident?

Well i dont think there is much you can do about it now other than buy all the pups off of him if you dont want them getting out to the public. And/Or go talk to the guy and tell him whats on your mind. Could go good could go bad never know untill you do. Or tell him if you see any of his dogs on your property again there gonna get it  >:D

call the county nxt time she is in your yard, take pics of it to show the pound patrol she is running loose in the neighborhood. if they wont do anything, after your conversation with him and he refuses to keep her on his property dirt nap time nxt time she comes over. if possible, get ur conversation on recording and take somebody with u as a personal witness to the conversation with him. as far as the pups, put an add where ever he is advertising stating the pups are half yours and half his and the breeding was not authorized by u and his bitch has nvr went hunting, and he is trying to make a fast dollar

Hell unless the potential buyers of the pups can get in touch with you directly, they have to take dude's word that these pups are off of "hunting" dogs.

I see people on Craigslist with whatever type random arse breedings trying to throw in their ads "would make great hunting dogs" or whatever just  to try and get the pups sold.

I don't agree with shooting an innocent dog. That dog doesn't know that she shouldn't be on your property. The owner needs to be held responsible. I would give him a piece of my mind.

I would never tell him I was gonna down his dog because one of yours could get loose one day and go to his place and he would retaliate and that would just start a mess. I wouldn't even say nothing to him about it more than likely the people getting the pups 8 out of ten won't do anything with them anyway but I always try to remember when dealing with neighbors about dogs that I have some to and sure don't want them to shoot one of mine because I killed one of their mutts good luck

x2 on what Bo said...it is not that big of deal if left alone...but make something of it and it can start something that you might regret later...

While ur dog may have breed his dog without ur consent I don't see the pups as half urs. He figured ur dogs breed her. She could have pups with 2 or 3 different sires. All I can see u can do is warn prospective buyers and hope it don't happen again or do as directed.

On the other hand if the dog was running free, how can anyone be certain who the daddy dog is.  Seems like he should have pinned his dog up, but he didn't.  It unfortunate but he can do what he wants with his dog and the pups.  Is he just an a$$ b/c he let her run loose or are there other reasons?  I can usually get along with anybody, if I thought I could talk to him without starting a pissing contest, I would call him up or stop by.  If I thought it was going to cause problems, I'd leave it alone.  Like previously said, you may try to take call the law if her coming on your property continues to cause you problems.

I understand your not wanting to compete against your own stock of dogs in theory. This is very much true of curs, but if it's just a bulldog who made some mutt pups with a strayin bitch, I wouldn't be too concerned about the competition.
Not wanting to sound snobby friends, but I'm just saying, the pups are mutts. You'll be fine.

Now if it was me and one of my curs, I'd buy the pups and fill a barrel to find the best swimmer and keep thatn'  ;)

That dog is not doing anything any other dog wouldn't do if it was loose.  Shooting a dog isn't going to solve anything.  The pups probably won't cause you as much problem if you think.  Any real hunter that is going to hunt hard enough to catch many hogs won't be buying pups from unproven crosses with an unproven dam and an unknown sire.

This all day. I'd test noses too though.

Since its a bulldog you might have a good rcd pup. Collect your stud fee and call it good.

No way I'd put a neighbors dog down I'm at work to often to have mad neighbors people will do some outlandish things if they even think you killed their fluffy. Just chalk the breeding up to bad luck and talk to them nicely and express your concern
