Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: justincorbell on November 27, 2013, 08:06:03 pm I own and hunt out of a rhino, its a workhorse......lol now with that said id go with the ranger hands down a better machine to hunt off of .....obviously this is just my opinion but i think the ranger is in a whole nother class when it comes to just about everything compared to the rhino.
Will the rhino get it done? Absolutely But after hunting with quite a few people running rangers i just think they are a better all around machine, stronger, faster and more comfortable for starters. Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: dodgegirl on November 27, 2013, 09:24:39 pm We've had a ranger & a rhino. The rhino was awesome for trail riding and going fast. We had a 6 in lift on it with a shot of nitrous, was a lot of fun. But I would much rather have the ranger! It's perfect for hunting. Put a dog box in the back with seats on top and you can't beat it. I use to love can am, but after having the front end lock up on a renegade 800 while going 60 I will never own another one.
Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: Ekunkel on November 27, 2013, 10:36:17 pm Iv got a rino. And I'd pick a ranger hand down lol Polaris has the atv market figured out forsure.
Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: 7Mhunter on November 27, 2013, 10:41:25 pm It's all about the terrain you hunt an what you like. I've the same rhino and it's been threw most places some people cant before i got it from a buddy!

Seen a couple tear up from things that didnt hurt my Honda. I just bought a rhino. I like the narrow width but could do without the feeling that it might tip over on hills.

Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: hoghunter71409 on November 28, 2013, 08:51:56 am I have a 2010 500 HO Ranger. Rides great, holds a lot of dogs, good speed; everything I could ask for except-it is heavy and has a hard time in deep mud. Once it is stuck, it is stuck and no getting out easy unless you have a big winch and something to hook up to. I go around mud holes even if I have to go an extra mile. I have a couple buddies with Rangers and they have had some problems, but they also put their through he!!. I don't have muc experience with the Rhino. I did hunt in one last weekend and it seemed just fine. I would buy another Ranger, but I think the best machines out there are the Hondas. Lots of pros and cons of the side by side and the 4 wheeler. If I could have anything, I think I would go with the new Honda side by side (cant remember the name). If you buy a ranger that has been taken care of and you service it regularly and stay out of mud and water, you will be just fine. Get good tires and a winch though!
Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: txhogsanddogs on November 28, 2013, 08:59:12 am I have a 2007 660 rhino and put mine only in the woods hog hunting. Ask MBEENET, TCOLT, DUCKCREEK, RYANTBH, and probably several other people on here about mine. For the years i have had it and the abuse i have put it threw, i assure you another machine wouldn't hold up. I love the rangers and have debated buying the 4 seater for clients but i will never get rid of my rhino because i know in the long run it will be there at the end of the day.

Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: muleskinner on November 28, 2013, 09:35:07 am I have the ranger crew 800 and its a great machine no problems. I haul five people and 7 dogs. No one in a rhino or mule have ever left me behind.
Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: mattr on November 28, 2013, 09:53:39 am Does anybody have any experience with a newer gator? Not trying to hijack your thread, just curious the newer ones look like good machines.
Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: Nash on November 28, 2013, 10:26:13 am I had a rhino at work for 3 years. It never gave us any trouble until it got run out of oil 6 or 7 times. Never changed the oil just added it. No problem with bearings or brakes etc. I had a 07 ranger with 350 hours on it and had already replaced all the bearings, seals, injectors, fuel pump, brakes, and a belt every 20 hours at $100 a belt. I had a Kawasaki teryx that was a good bike but eat up brakes, seals, and bearings. I have since sold them and bought a Toyota tocoma which works better for me.

Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: Shotgun wg on November 28, 2013, 05:21:05 pm If a man goes with a Honda put a snorkel on it first thing. Intake clogs easily without one.
New gator that I hunted with was useless after the first water crossing. Bout knee deep water. Rangers are hit and miss. I have seen them run a long time with little trouble other than belt issues. Others I have seen ran the gamut. 1 didn't go 3 miles motor blew up. Others were constant electrical issues. Some the guys that owned them crossed their fingers every time they tried to crank them. If theirs would crank they had little trouble. Rhinos have some belt issues but never heard of much trouble otherwise. To be honest the amount of issues in the ranger could be because they are the most sold side x side. Hence more to have issues. I currently have a honda big red. If I was to buy a new one tomorrow it would be the new pioneer from Honda. Snorkels of course just in case. Shotgun Arkansas Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: charles on November 28, 2013, 05:38:39 pm As far as the gator, not no, but he!! no. The army has them, even brand new, they SUCK. The army also bought 16 brand new 4 seater rangers and all the ones that were handed out to the flt crews n maint mech were broke down with 4 months, but as most soldiers do, they dog n trash them bc they look at as, "i didnt buy it, its the armys", but when they went down, they were crying bc they had to hump their flt gear n tool boxes to the flt line. A friend has a rhino n he has loaded it down with dogs, hog trailer with hogs n a person in the cab n me on the hog trailer n it went through some stuff that i didnt think we would make it through.

Shotgun Arkansas I agree with the red 100%, I know one thing for sure, I see WAY more rangers heading to and from deer leases than I see any others. Like a said my little rhino is a workhorse I like it just fine but I like the ranger more, I am considering the pioneer also. Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: charles on November 28, 2013, 09:07:33 pm Japanese mini truck, won't disappoint. This thing is small but haul and go anywhere, with half the cost. Very true, the bongo tcks r tough rides, comes in 2 n 4 door, has heat n a/c n uses atv tires Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: buddylee on November 29, 2013, 06:09:07 am I never see people talking about the Rhino's reliability. Only problems I see are the guys who put big tires on and run them thru the deepest mud hole they can find. There are a LOT of Rhino's out there. You outta check out the new Viking. It has a full bench seat unlike the Rhino's 2 bucket seats.

The ones I've driven and worked out of, I loved, but, even though I've heard they'll go anywhere, I just don't believe it yet. They have no more ground clearance than an atv but have a longer wheelbase and are heavier. Wouldn't they bottom out easily in muddy conditions? Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: MB650 on November 29, 2013, 04:13:16 pm I run a Kubota RTV 900XT. I build fence off of it all day and hog hunt out of at night. Now it is mot a speed demon but it is a work horse with the Diesel engine.

I wasn't knocking ur ride, I just couldn't see paying the price tag I saw Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: Judge peel on November 30, 2013, 07:49:09 am I would use either one cuz I walk hunt so any ride would be nice
Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: bolo on December 04, 2013, 10:20:39 am I bought a new rhino 660 in 2006.It used oil from the day I bought it till I traded it in in 2009 for a new 2009 700 rhino.I replaced the drive belt on the 700 6 times from new till 2013 . It seemed to eat belts, but I usually had it loaded with a dog box,5 or 6 dogs, 2 big fat suckers in the seats, and many times 300 to 500 pounds of hogs on the front rack. I now have a 2013 midsise 800 ranger. So far the midsise has done well (no problems so far).I hunt in the woods & need a narrow side by side to get between trees.I run over any trees or bushes that the ranger can push down, probably up to 3-4 inches in diameter & the midsise 800 ranger is one bad dude. so far Ive got 1200 miles on it & hasn't been back to the shop.Zero problems so far.
Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: buddylee on December 04, 2013, 06:39:38 pm Sounds like ur rhino was the exception cause I know folks with Rhinos and they never had any problems.
Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: Riverhogman on December 04, 2013, 07:39:22 pm Well boys this discussion wasnt really helpful. I think ima take a stab at the ranger, if i can get this rhino sold.
Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: charles on December 04, 2013, 07:51:19 pm If it aint broke, why screw with it? If ur rhino is still ticking, why get somethin that may or may not brake down on u more than what u got
Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: Bo Pugh on December 04, 2013, 07:57:41 pm My dad has a ranger he just uses around the house has had it several years with no prob. And i went and picked up a used one yesterday to try out its a 700xp so far I like it and will prob go pay the man tomm but I plan on putting mine to the test this summer. I have always tore up just about everything I rode to hunt on in one summer so if you ask me this question about this time next year I will give you my honest opinion about the rangers
Title: Re: Ranger or rhino? Post by: hogdog05 on December 05, 2013, 03:56:39 pm I can't say much for the rhinos. But tight fitting bucket seats ain't no good for a fat boy.
Rangers I personally like. Quiet, you can fit 3 fat boys in the front seat, plenty of power( we ride around in low), wide, lots of room in bed, do need around 27 inch tires to help em out a little. Just a good workhorse. |
