Title: Weight gainer?
Post by: Bowhunter1994 on December 02, 2013, 05:22:24 pm
Got a gyp that eats her dog food (24/20 sportsmix) but doesn't gain weight. What can I give her to gain some weight? She is underweight and I wanna get her to gain a couple pounds!
She is a very active pup (10 months old)

A lot of young dogs are like that... just like kids!

Make sure she's wormed good and she'll fill out with age.

1 tablespoon of wheat germ oil over their feed every day has worked for a "hard to keep" dog several times for me.

Had this problem once. Fed the dog puppy food for a couple weeks or canned food, beef & rice. Mix it with dry food 1/2 can a day and they gain the weight and fill out quicker. I usually do this when I get a new dog too put some weight on them quicker. Or skinny dog in general. And worm the dog for sure.

Best thing I've ever seen is to kill a hog and give the head to the dog it'll slick em right off ! But it's not such a good idea in the warm season unless you have a Iron stomach
