Title: Been thinking.
Post by: dodgegirl on December 19, 2013, 07:42:08 pm
I've been considering putting one of our male dogos over a wolf hound gyp. Really wanting to gain more speed. Now our dogos aren't slow but they aren't super fast either. Always room for improvement. This is just a thought nothing for sure yet. For those  of you who have owned a wolf hound will you please tell me about them. I'd like to know the pros and cons. Not looking for answers from someone who has hunted with them once. Only from people who truly know the breed. Thanks in advance.

No first hand knowledge but U could also check out this site from Australia. Seems they try all types of crosses and I have seen this one on there more than once.

I have 2 half deer hound pups and have talked to people a good deal about these type of dogs in the last 6 months. Slow to mature. My female will catch a pig but my male has a 80 pounder under his belt before 5 months old
It is hard to find true hunting stock of deer hounds wolf hounds etc in the us stags can be found in yote hunting groups.  Wolf hounds are a little bigger boned then deer hounds in middle with stags being the thinnest.  This is why I ended up shying away from them (personal prefference)  speed is stag deer hound wolf hound. Most wind is deer hound wolf hound stag.  This is also all general not the rule.  One more thing on the stags is they are a mix of grey hound and either deer hound of wolf hound
Most corsing stags have a lot more grey hound than wolf or deer hound in them
And will be thinner skinned.  As with any dog talk long and hard to the owner before you jump into one.
