Title: Remote hog traps
Post by: E barnes on January 02, 2014, 06:09:23 pm
Alright guy some of our landowners are buying these fancy traps. Whats this going to do to our hog population? I think they are sold out of east texas.

I've seen the vids of them.  They are pretty neat.  Where I trap the camera and then the gate would be stolen.

We played with the Jagerpro one for a few weeks and it was impressive (and heavy). A guy in South Carolina was trying one out  at the same time and he caught over 90 in a couple weeks. The pigs in your area are what dictate its efficiancy. That's a lot of panel, post, and wire to try to cover up. Takes a long time to get a group of trap smart hogs used to that area and they're hell to dismantle and move for even two or three guys. Just my experience with em.

they wont have any more effect than the thousands of traps already set across the state , don't be scared boys .  until they figure out a safe target only poison distribution system you won't run out of hogs  .

Got two guys right here in Springtown making them cheap. They catch a LOT of hogs with them. Big area traps you watch and when most of the group is inside you can trip it almost instantly. I saw 1800lbs loaded up in one catch was about 17 hogs. They will lower the numbers in the immediate area. Way more effective than a box trap.

Hopefully there will be some hog trap smart hogs that will reproduce their kind...

But more than like the hog numbers will drop and that is when we will see how good some of our strike dogs really are...   :)

What ever kind of trap you build the hogs will figure it out. Like an old hog hunter and trapper told me ( while your building the trap there watching and figuring it out) . There will always be hogs !!
