Title: Re: Energy!!!! Post by: heavyhitter89 on January 13, 2014, 08:26:21 pm Ive heard aot of guys that give there dogs honey before the hunt. its kinda like a hell of a sugar rush. I usually just hunt the dogs then change them out and let them rest while I used two others and keep giving them breaks

Title: Re: Energy!!!! Post by: T-Bob Parker on January 13, 2014, 10:49:39 pm theres no substitute for having good solid using dogs.
you can give a run of the mill dog whatever drug youd like but the best youll acheive is the same dog thats a little jittery. Title: Re: Energy!!!! Post by: Reuben on January 14, 2014, 04:48:56 am A chunk of beef liver or a small can of tuna will probably work pretty good...on long hunts you can see the dogs hanging out more after some long running...feed them a little something and they are ready for another long run or two...

So I would hunt Friday night through Saterday morning give them a brake and before I would go back out sat evening an hr before i started i would give em half cc or so in the mouth then another half cc or so when i started they would have plenty of energy for the night but when it wore off they would come down pretty quick. That being said if they've had some hard runs I'd give them rimadyl for soreness. Some dogs won't eat when they are tired and run down I like to give mine a can of salmon when they don't eat their dog food or mix it with the dog food. This will also put some fluid back in 'em. I've never tried Gatorade but I imagine it would be good to use to put some electrolytes back in their system.

Title: Re: Energy!!!! Post by: Bo Pugh on January 14, 2014, 08:05:20 pm I've always heard that dexamethadone "spelling" will give them a boost they won't know when they get tired. I was buying some stuff at the tractor supply that was called rooster booster that seemed to pep them up it had vitamin b and k in it. But it's hard to hunt a good dog 4 days in a row and expect them to be the same dog everyday. I wouldn't recomend giving a dog that was out of shape anything for performance because their bodies aren't fit enough to handle it
