Title: Trouble catching pigs in GA
Post by: woody13 on January 19, 2014, 08:20:54 pm
Me and my brother took my dogs out today. I only run 2 dogs, a bmc and a rcd. I originally from Florida and never had problems catching pigs. Today was the second time I've hunted here in Georgia. My strike dog ended up finding 3 hogs and bayed them up, but my rcd is not getting to the bay fast enough and the hogs break, and end up running.my strike dog will stop it, but Every time my rcd can't get there fast enough. It gets to where I have to call the strike dog off because I end up on someone else's property. This happened on 3 different pigs today. My rcd is a bmc/pit cross but is short like his momma. I'm already thinking about raising another strike dog. I'm just not used to hogs running this much. In Florida, 9 times outta 10, the hog will stay put and fight instead of run. Does anyone else in Georgia have this problem? Now I'm considering getting a taller catch dog. I just don't know what to do...

I'm not in Georgia but we got some track stars. If they don't bay fast the race is on. I also run a RCD. He is as fast as my bay dogs and will find his own. I run him just like a bay dog and he will catch as soon as he has a chance. I run rough bay dogs to help hold once caught. This has worked for me here. It may or may not work for u. Even running dogs like these I have had them cover 4 miles as the crow flies before they got one stopped.

Yeah, I'm thinking my catch dog is just too slow, I mean don't get me wrong, I know a hog will strike out if it has the chance but dang it seems like they all run in the Olympics. I'm still gonna raise up another dog, maybe I need to get a taller and faster catch dog too. If this don't work, I'll highly consider getting some walker puppies from my uncle this year
