got a tracking system for my dogs this week...found a really good deal on a system, so i jumped on it. took it out this morning, i really like it..i'm still fine tuning how to work it properly, but all in all i was pleased with how it worked for me...

did that when i got home(used the kids...lol)....i think i have figured out the whole gain/fine tuning thing...read the manual again and i think i've figured it out....when i was using it this morning i was able to pinpoint the direction my dog was in, then he circled on me and snuck up behind me...lol

They take a bit of getting used to but once you do you will wonder how you ever lived w/o it.

What kind of system did you get?

ended up getting an innotek rd300...guy gave me a nice deal on it so i went ahead and got it...after losing kristen for a night i decided i needed to go ahead and get one...not the best in the world but it finds the dogs...lol...i'm on spring break this week..if you get time would love to put the dogs in the woods....leaving town for a funeral wed, thur, be back on fri during the day...got sat and sun off also...if your free holler at me...

Innotek is an OK system... what you'll need to remember after having your dog sneak up behind you is that a yaggie (not sure of the spelling) antenna that comes with the innotek works/receives the signal from both directions.

In a nutshell, if your dog is north you will get a strong signal, if you spin 180 to the south you will still receive a signal, just not as strong, as your antenna is still receiving the signal on the flip side of your array. No one ever told me so I figured I'd pass the info along to you.

You will find later on down the road that the collar you strap on your dog will make a world of difference also. Innotek will receive signals from other collars, they just have to be the correct frequency. There is a breakdown in your manual of what the actual frequence is when you set your collars to say 1,2,3,4,5... and so on.

Other trackers can pick up Innoteck collar frequences as well, so don't get traped into thinking you have to buy Innotek products for your Innotek and visa versa.

     Having the little Tracker Maxima I have had some problems with getting a 180 signal. Getting better at it, but I will say that yesterday I was questioning my Tracker, so I had Matt break out the big boy. QuickTrack 6000.

Everything is a trade off. I like the little unit, but realize it is not as good as the Quick Track.

I have no experience with the Innotek, but I can only imagine that any tracking system is better than no tracking system.

What I was told to correct the 180, it do dial the unit down to the point that you only get signal in one direction. If you are getting signal north and south, keep dialing down until you only get one or the other, but not both. 

apprciate the help guys...i started flirting with it in the woods....i got to the point where i would get a signal in th opposite direction but the meter wasn't pegging hard...when i turned around it had the same signal sound, but the meter was peggin real hard...also got it to where i was only getting a signal when i was facing the dogs...from everything that i have read, the innotek has it's downfalls, but if you work with it it is a really good system. i think what makes most stay away from it is that you have to consistantly flirt with the gain/tune depending on how far out your dog is...alot of the other systems is point and go...like you said chris any system that works is better than no system at all...lol

I had an Innotek for a short while and had big problems with my collars bleeding over channels.  I found a good deal on a Wildlife system and when I found out I could send all my quick track collars in to have the reprogrammed to match the wildlife frequencies I jumped all over it.  There were two things I liked about the Innotek...1) the way the antenna would collapse down when inserted into the case / tube and 2) I liked that it ran on a 9-volt battery.  There has been a few times when I needed my wildlife system only to realize I hadn't recharged the battery lately.  I sort of fixed that by installing a cigarette lighter on my four wheeler.
