I started mine early taking her to pens and traps to see and smell them but not putting her inside, bout 6 months old I put her in with some pigs a lil smaller than her and it was on from there , she's a lil over a year now and doing well as a running catch dog , but that's my 2cents

Right about teeth. Mine at 8 months then again at a year. Left with mr.mason for about a week or so and now good to go. Dont hunt that much but every time I do I feel good about performance

I took my dogo to one place in early Nov when he around 7 months.  He wanted nothing to do with the pigs.

I actually just took him to Mr. Mason's this morning and he was right on the hogs.  They were small pigs (40/50lbs) but he still made me proud.  He's 11 months now and I'm looking at taking him more in the next couple months working up to bigger hogs, once I get a vest.

Then to the finding training :)

From my experience dogos mature VERY slow. We usually start messing with them at about 11 months. In my opinion dogos are complete dumba$$ until around a 1 1/2 yrs old.

I have a 2 year old dogo that is doing an awesome job.  He has caught many hogs 250 lb and over by himself.

When he was about 6 months old I let him ride along on a hunt.  I also took a 3.5 month old plot pup I had.  Anyway, I had caught a sow (100 lb or so) with my other dogs and I had the sow tied to a tree close to the road.  I put the old dogs up and decided to show the sow to my dogo and plot pup.

The dogo pup tried baying the sow and the plott pup grabed a hold of the sow and was shaking.  I thought, uh oh, this is not going to work.  Dogo baying and plott is catching.  Good for the plott, not good for the dogo.  I kept the dogo pup and just kept messing with him around the house.  At one year old I used him to catch two big barrs and he did it.  HUGE difference between 6 months and 1 year old.

I personally would wait until the dogo is more than a year to before I had expectations.  Seeing a tied up hog or running on small hogs or outside of a pin would be okay.

At around 4to5 months mine started showing interest in the bay pen let him catch at around 10months he's hog crazy to me he catches fine but seems to be slow maturing . Gonna leave him alone and let him get some age say 18to20 months

Man i have a male dogo that started catching and holding when he was 3 months. I was amazed when he did. He was my very first dogo. Of course when his new teeth came in i took him off until they were set. But ive had a few dogos and i agree with them being goofs until after a yr. but it took me a while to get that trough my head. Since my very first dogo started catchin on pigs at 3 months that was my complete expectation. I would have my doubts on them because of them not starting as early as my first one but i finally realized they are slow maturing. I just happend to come across one that started real early. At the moment i have a 10 month old one that i started taking with me to the woods at 6 months. I let him run around and be a pup and get used to the woods other dogs and riding in the truck. And few weeks ago he actually for the first time put his teeth on a pig wich i was excited about. So i personally think their never too young to take out. Get them use to it all. Now if he catches on one then yeah ypu know he will amd  i would keep him away until teeth set.

Teeth should be set good by 11 months. I start mine at 9 months running behind a solid holding dog just to protect the teeth. Earlier than 9 months just let them catch some small stuff they can handle. No reason to expect good Dogo to be late maturing.

Two littermate males at 12 months, they were started at 10 months, pretty solid now.

Female 7 months in this pic, 9 months now and will catch anything, sending her behind a solid dog for protection but good to go.

very expensive to replace the canine on him/her, id wait til 11 months old for full on catch work. you can let them catch sooner if its a tiny pig
