U can't "treat" heartworms at home. You can only prevent. .10 cc per 10 lb of body weight. It's not recommended to give any dog that is heartworm positive a preventative but that being said ivermectin which is n heartguard is given to dogs that is heartworm positive dogs to people who can't or won't afford the treatment. Heartworms will die of old age.
