Title: Keeping weight on hogs
Post by: fonzie on February 24, 2014, 05:03:38 pm
Anyone have any tips on keeping weight in hogs? I've heard that them being stressed out cause them to lose weight quick does the type of trailer you hold them in have any impact on that?

They will lose a quarter of their weight pretty durn quick and takes them for ever to regain.  Nit the rule I have had a couple take right to feed and gain weight but not very often

I take 24ounce bottle of Draino and put half bottle per 5gallon bucket of corn. Fill up rest with water and let soak a few days. when there tails curl up you know its done this trick and they will get fat.

This seems like another tournament based thread. Are you asking how to keep weight on a hog after catching them?  In instance, catch a big boar the first day of a three day live tournament, and how to keep him from stressing and keep his weight on?

If this is about tournament hunts, I thought about this before as well. Wonder what they'd do if you just drench em like show pigs? If You could, there's at least a dozen cocktails/witch doctor brews you could put down em. Also wonder if they'll eat cake mix like show pigs....

This is exactly what I'm talking about... Some where saying that fully enclosed helps a hog from stressing out any truth to that?

The closed in trailer helps but also keep more than one hog in the trailer and keep plenty of good hay for them to eat . And good fresh water, which we all know can a problem . Even if you feed corn hogs will eat a lot of hay and stay full .
