Title: What's a Internet Hog Hunter in your opinion? Post by: Myles Man on March 06, 2014, 12:34:07 am I can explain why I'm asking this question but first I'd like to hear from y'all. What's your definition of a "Internet Hog Hunter"....I have my idea of what it means.....but since I'm not as experienced as most I'd like to hear from you all who have lots of experience with everything that involves hog doggin...especially 1st hand experiences of dealing with "Internet Hog Hunters"...

Post by: Shotgun wg on March 06, 2014, 07:42:45 am A person on the net all the time that has the best dogs known to man yet never has any pics. Has the answer for it all. He is a lot like "the most interesting man in the world." We all hear his wisdom and his exploits but nobody ever sees it in person.

Post by: WayOutWest on March 06, 2014, 08:55:32 am I guess I am. 11 months a year I sit up here in Washington and read about y'alls hunts and for the other month I come down and squeeze in as many hunts as I can. I'm a old fart who ain't much on a puter so I don't post pics and I don't have dogs ( except catch dogs) so I guess I fit the bill.
Title: Re: What's a Internet Hog Hunter in your opinion? Post by: Treezbulldogz on March 06, 2014, 09:52:20 am lol Heck, I think I fit in this category as well. Don't have the best dogs in the world but I got some dogs. Haven't posted any pic of them but I can. I'm still trying to get out and do some hunting but until then I'm on here being a internet "wannabe" hog hunter.

Title: Re: What's a Internet Hog Hunter in your opinion? Post by: Myles Man on March 06, 2014, 04:37:30 pm The topic on here by Purebreedcolt "where you started to where you are now" had me thinking of my situation.....I thought hard about his topic.
Where I started?maybe 2 yrs ago I was given 2 pups....Machito (Cat/Mt Cur/Redbone/Pit) and Bella (YBMC). They were in the woods with the big dogs at 6 months old. By the time Machito hit 18 months I learned he had very little hunt in him....he was a sho nuff help dog-but def not a true lead strike dog. I could tell right off Bella was born with it. She was the natural leader out of the two. Add in Sally (a cur gyp I had as a yard dog for 9 yrs now) as a RCD or lead in CD then there's my pack!! That's what I've had as a working group---my whole 2 1/2 or 3 years of doggin hogs... So basically I'm still where I started. Sadly--since Machito died 2 weeks ago--I'm anticipating having another strike dog---which will prob be a pup I raise out of proven parents....prob from my Bella gyp....and the same applies to having a top notch CD....I will prob be patient enough to have a litter of AB's in 6 months or so and raise my pick of litter to be my main CD...possibly raise 2 pups together.... I'm very thankful to hear y'all's response in a way that lets me know it can take time to get what you're looking for. My pack of 2 gyps that were born with hunt (Sally and Bella) is what I will use to keep my focus and experience on this sport I've grown to really enjoy. I have all I need in them as of now and that makes me happy. With that being said-I can take them both in the woods today and it will be 50% chasing pigs and 50% catching pigs.....all I really want is a few dogs to run. If they get knocked out from a hunt-then I will just go with some friends...no pressure in my opinion. I was just dealing with comparing my numbers with others and it had me thinking if I am an "Internet hog hunter"....I have gotten some good smiles from y'all's replies and it takes me back to the basics. If I'm happy and it works for me-my numbers or or what jam up dog I own/dont own kinda doesn't matter...as long as I get what I'm looking for and apply what I've learned.. I think in 5 years it will be an improvement based on what I'm looking for, which doesn't come overnight. Well-maybe if you want to pay big bucks for finished dogs I guess....which I really can't do.... Title: Re: What's a Internet Hog Hunter in your opinion? Title: Re: What's a Internet Hog Hunter in your opinion? Post by: MrsLouisianaHogDog on March 06, 2014, 05:32:17 pm I've heard the term thrown around a lot, lol.
One thing that irks me though....is that some people assume that JUST because someone doesn't post a bunch of pictures of hunts on the net, that MUST mean that they don't hunt. ??? Cause ya know.....if you can't see it on the net, that must mean it doesn't happen! I think there is a good amount of people these days that live to impress others. I've seen people out on a hunt steady on their cell phone giving status updates and makin excuses etc etc to their buddies or whatnot instead of enjoying the darn hunt. I don't hunt for anyone else, or to impress anyone else, I hunt because I enjoy it, and I enjoy working with my dogs and watching them work. It's nice to be proud and throw up pics here and there and share, I'm NOT downing anyone who posts pics a lot now....I'm just saying, that just because someone doesn't post a lot of pics up, doesn't mean they don't hunt, lol. A' fad hunter' is worse than an 'internet hog hunter' any day. Title: Re: What's a Internet Hog Hunter in your opinion? On here, I have them jammed up silent hog stoppers... Off here, I have them sorry mouthy mutts that just run em all day... ;D Title: Re: What's a Internet Hog Hunter in your opinion? Post by: Muddogkennels on March 06, 2014, 11:24:23 pm I've heard the term thrown around a lot, lol. . yes I agree on your statement because like my self i don't have the time to sit there and post pictures and don't see the cause to brag all the time because the dogs are what makes the hunts memorable.. I enjoy being in the woods .. now I know I got some pic too share but the story's are old if you hunt 2 to 3 times a week. Post by: preacher1 on March 08, 2014, 06:37:55 am There's always two or more ways to look at it. How about on the negative side, it's someone who got all their hoghunting knowledge from looking on the net and learning all the right things to say. A few giveaways are: finished dog and the dog is less than a year old, always got a good dog for sale- jam up bay dog strike dog, leader of the pack, been finding their own hog since he was 1 month old, $100. Been thinkin about breeding my ybm, cat, german shepherd, poodle bird dog, pit to a korelian bear dog. Got a litter of pups for sale out of proven stock(ybm, cat, german shepherd, poodle, bird dog,pit x korelian bear dog -$300 a pup. Well , you get the picture.
Then on the positive side or maybe it's the truthful side. It's someone who has got old and fat and all their good dogs are dead and they just lost heart after old Nigger died (never got a pup out of him to carry on with). They enjoy gettin on here and seeing what those young bucks are doing and if they are really gonna carry on the hunt and fight for the right to keep on doing it. And man look at them good lookin dogs and wish my good huntin buddy hadn't died. Wish the huntin buddy I raised coonhuntin and hoghunting hadn't moved so far from home after he got out of the Marines. An old fart that keeps a couple dogs just in case he gets a wild hair to get off the net and go to the woods. But ends up fallin asleep in the recliner before he can get his boots on to go. Oh well had a good dream about Nigger and Do and Stubb and that old bulldog Mo. Man what a monster we caught -510 lbs! Good huntin boys. Title: Re: What's a Internet Hog Hunter in your opinion? Post by: jimco on March 08, 2014, 08:33:57 am Like Mike said, we are all on here. Me and my son got a few dogs we raised from pups. They are 2 1/2
now. They find a few hogs now and then. We don't have the spots nor the hog numbers to consistently stay on em but no complaints. I get some invites to hunt in Miss. and Pearl River,La. with some young folks I met on this board. At my age (52), I just enjoy being in the woods when I get a chance. I don't care about the numbers, or limiting out on fish or ducks,etc.... When I was younger it was ALL about the numbers and limiting out on what ever it was we was hunting or fishing. As far as posting pictures, I posted pics of one hunt and my fricking neighbors who I didn't know were lurking on here, figured out where we were hunting and went and back doored us and we lost that spot. So I learned a lesson. I am always humbled by the young folks on here that have been respectful to me and the other older folks on the board. I really do enjoy this site so if I'm considered an Internet Hunter because I don't get to hunt as much as most, and one of my favorite hobbies is this site, well........ Title: Re: What's a Internet Hog Hunter in your opinion? Post by: Nannyslayer on March 11, 2014, 11:15:17 am I think I fit right in here. I look at this website 5 days a week, then go hunting on the weekends. Saturdays I get to hunt most of the day, sundays I get to hunt for a few hours in the morning. Then I spend the rest of the day with the wife and kids.
So I'd say my internet hog hunting experience is far greater than my actual hog hunting experience. |
